Hours after … he said he thinks women who have abortions should be punished… Donald Trump has clarified his comments. … “If you say abortion is a crime or abortion is murder, you have to deal with it under the law,” Matthews said. Trump… asked, “Are you going to say, well wait, are you going to say put them in jail? Is that the punishment you’re talking about?” …Ultimately, Trump responded that the “answer is that there has to be some form of punishment, yeah.”

Later, however, the Trump campaign released the following statement:

…the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman. The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.

Hmm. Seems like almost everything Trump said needs "clarifying" by him or his folks.

…It began in 1981. Trump bought a 14-story building on prime real estate facing New York City's Central Park.

His plan was to tear down the building and replace it with luxury condos. But first he needed a small band of rent-stabilized tenants out of there.

To succeed, Trump played rough, according to lawsuits filed by the tenants. Renters said he cut heat and hot water, and he imposed tough building rules. Trump even proposed sheltering homeless people in the building.

It went on for five years as Trump fought tenants, real estate lawyers, New York state regulators and city officials.…

Venter’s team painstakingly whittled down the genome of Mycoplasma mycoides, a bacterium that lives in cattle, to reveal a bare-bones set of genetic instructions capable of making life. Yet within those 473 genes lies a gaping hole. Scientists have little idea what roughly a third of them do. Rather than illuminating the essential components of life, syn3.0 has revealed how much we have left to learn about the very basics of biology.…

If you don't believe in God or a universal spirit, you're more likely to be callous and manipulative, according to a controversial new study.

Atheists exhibit more traits commonly seen among psychopaths than people who consider themselves to be religious.

However, believers aren't spared criticism - the study also found that religious people are less intelligent than their non-believing counterparts.…

Securing Our Borders

The number of arrests made at the border of people from Afghanistan and Pakistan is up significantly this year compared to last, the president of the National Border Patrol Council said when he testified during a House hearing on Tuesday.

Brandon Judd, who has also served as a Border Patrol agent for nearly 20 years, also told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security that he has witnessed U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials fudge alien apprehension statistics by low-balling the number of “got aways…” Judd began by denying what he says is the Obama administration’s claim that “the border is more secure today than it’s ever been.”

“As a Border Patrol Agent, I will tell you the exact opposite,” Judd said.…

Trump knows psychology. He knows facts don’t matter. He knows people are irrational. So while his opponents are losing sleep trying to memorize the names of foreign leaders – in case someone asks – Trump knows that is a waste of time. No one ever voted for a president based on his or her ability to name heads of state. People vote based on emotion. Period.

…On this day in 1663 the Province of Carolina was granted by charter to eight Lords Proprietor in reward for their assistance in restoring Charles II of England to the throne. This became the States of North and South Carolina (it also included a number of other current States). The Carolina colony was the only one founded for strictly a profit motive. In order to facilitate as rapid a settlement as possible the Lords Proprietor invited settlers of all religions to come to the Carolinas. Their idea was to make money from the growing crops which had been successful in the Caribbean Islands.

"In our experiences from interviews with people after contact, there is a unanimous consensus that people stay isolated mostly because of fear of extermination and slavery. People want to trade, particularly for access to steel machetes and axes, and they crave exposure to new ideas and new opportunities. Humans are a gregarious species that intrinsically desire and benefit from outside interactions with other groups."

Yesterday, I stumbled across something Ben Carson said that brought me to a screeching halt.

In an interview with The Hill in which Carson defended his decision to endorse the guy who compared him to pathological pedophiles, Carson said:

“I needed to know that he could listen to other people, that he could change his opinions, and that some of the more outlandish things that he’s said, that he didn’t really believe those things,” Carson said.

When asked which statements Trump might back away from, Carson demurred.

“I’ll let him talk about that because I don’t think it’s fair for me to relay a private conversation,” he said.

Oh, really? So, Donald Trump really doesn’t believe some of the things he said, but you aren’t going to tell us which of the things he said that he doesn’t believe?!

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. James Lankford accused Democrats of hypocrisy Wednesday for insisting that the Supreme Court vacancy be filled during a presidential election year.

Lankford, R-Oklahoma, also vowed that Republicans would ensure President Barack Obama can’t appoint someone to the high court during a Senate break.

In a speech on the Senate floor, Lankford said, “We will also not allow a recess appointment.

“That has been floated multiple times in the media — that the president will just do a recess appointment and go around us. The Senate chooses when the Senate is in recess. Not the president. So we can do this. We can remain in continuous session without recess to prevent a recess appointment by this president through the rest of this year.…”
