At the Oklahoma Wesleyan University autumn Board of Trustees meeting, OKWU President, Dr. Everett Piper, shared his plans with OKWU leadership for his June 2020 retirement from the University.
“Oklahoma Wesleyan University owes Dr. Piper a huge debt of gratitude for the amazing turnaround in the financial health of our school since his arrival 16 years ago,” said OKWU Board Chairman, Roger Metcalf. “Even more important is the spiritual vitality that Dr. Piper has helped us experience. The school year has started and the “snowflake” rebellion of 2015 is anything but dead. Micro-aggressions, trigger warnings, and demands for “safe spaces” continue to dominate the campus news from coast to coast. As the university president who wrote the viral “This is Not a Day Care” op-ed, I have been called by the media in recent days with essentially this question: “Dr. Piper, okay – your “Not a Day Care” piece identified the problem, but what’s the solution?”
Here’s my answer…
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reveals that nearly 60 percent of high school students today have never had sex – an increase of 28 percent since 1991.… [BUT!] “Teens who do choose to engage in sexual activity are using less birth control; sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are on the rise, as is adolescent depression, sometimes referred to as the emotional STI,” the College notes. “Sexual abstinence is the only behavior choice that offers adolescents 100% protection against the triple epidemic of depression, STIs and teen pregnancy due to early sexual debut.”…

…I always found Jay Leno’s “Jay Walking” segment depressing. He would wander around Los Angeles, conducting man on the street interviews with passers by, most of whom showed complete ignorance about very basic American history questions. I never found it humorous, I found it disheartening, but also context for why things are the way they are.
