Greek government officials are concerned about the legal delays that have prevented the construction of a mosque in Athens. It is feared that the absence of a mosque in the Greek capital could encourage the spread of Islamic extremism.

The theft of 7,000 pounds of copper from electric pylons at a water treatment plant in Italy almost left Rome without drinking water. If the plant had not switched to emergency generators, water service would have been suspended. After a police chase, four Albanians were arrested on suspicion of stealing the copper.

In other news, gunmen boarded a ship off the coast of Sabah in Borneo and abducted four Malaysian crew members. The identity of the kidnappers has not been established, but Islamic militants from Abu Sayyaf are the principal suspects.…

Archaeologists believe they may have discovered a second Viking settlement in North America. The site at Point Rosee in southwestern Newfoundland was first identified using satellite imagery. Subsequent excavation uncovered what is tentatively identified as a Norse settlement dated somewhere between 800 AD and 1300 AD. The new site is more than 400 miles southwest of L’Anse aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland, the only other Viking site in North America.

In other news, after a brush fire broke out last week next to a power line in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, emergency workers discovered incendiary devices resembling pipe bombs attached to the line. The police and the FBI investigated. Today a man named Danny Kelly was arrested in Chelmsford and charged with placing the devices on the power line.…

Police at Brussels Airport say that at least fifty supporters of ISIS have jobs at the airport, despite background checks that are intended to keep extremists out. The police are threatening to go on strike if more is not done to deal with such security problems.

…On this day in 1970 left wing Republican President Richard Nixon signed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act into law, requiring the Surgeon General's warnings on tobacco products and banning cigarette advertising on television and radio in the United States, starting on January 1, 1971. This act passed by a Democrat Congress was, and still is, blatantly unconstitutional and like all Fascist laws passed in this time frame it has grown into far more mischief both in the tobacco area and branched out into other Fascist government control even to the point now where the federal government controls your child's lunch in local schools.
