In recent days we've seen a number of left-wing spokesmen ranging from Bill Maher to Frank Rich dismissing Obama as a disappointment -- too centrist, too moderate, not at all the American Lenin they'd ordered. Even Mark Halperin, who would fracture his nose if any Democratic politician ever stopped short, dismissed the messiah as a "dick" on MSNBC. ... The explanation for this is quite simple: Obama has failed, but the ideology must go on.... [OR, the media is learning that if they act like Obama is a centrist, the gullible masses may believe it.]

ATF Senior Special Agent John Dodson says what he was asked to do was beyond belief. An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in 2010, Dodson's job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen. Investigators call the tactic letting guns "walk." In this case, walking into the hands of criminals who would use them in Mexico and the United States.
A group of more than 600 mayors are calling on President Obama to strengthen and increase enforcement of the nation's gun laws in the wake of a controversial gun tracking operation that may have contributed to the death of at least one federal agent. ... New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who chair the group, also pushed for Obama to expand mandatory reporting requirements for gun dealers who sell multiple assault rifles and variants. By increasing the requirements beyond the currently mandated multiple handgun purchase laws, it would cut down on the number of AK-47 and AR-15 variant rifles that flow to Mexican drug cartels, the group said.... [Not as long as the Obama Justice Dept is PUSHING them!] Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have called for a similar strengthening of gun laws in the wake of operation Fast and Furious. [Obama's devious plan to undermine the 2nd Amendment is WORKING -- sort-of.]
"The reason you guys are here is because on 9/11 the United States got attacked," Panetta told the troops. ... I always viewed Iraq more about changing the terms of the fight in the Mideast. Al Qaeda was offering a vision for how Muslims should live, not only in accordance with strict Islamic rule but also in confrontation with the West. For the most part the US had been offering support for despots in the region (think Egypt and Saudi Arabia). By getting rid of Saddam we'd be able to create a demonstration project as it were and offer an alternative path for the region. Oh and we'd be getting rid of a monster who also posed a major security threat to a vital part of the world in the process. Whatever Panetta meant, it's fun to see a Democrat on the receiving end of the media's narrative protection effort for a change.
Ron Bloom, Assistant to the President for Manufacturing Policy, is quoted in a 2009 newspaper account and a 2010 book saying of the auto bailouts that he "did this all for the unions." But when Bloom appeared before the committee on June 22, he flatly denied ever saying those words. Other White House officials have reportedly defended Bloom by suggesting that he did indeed say those words but was joking. And that has led committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa to ask what is going on.
I've lived in DC and/or its immediate surroundings for 20 years and I can assure you there were never foot patrol with assault rifles prior to Obama. Something has shifted under Obama. If yields on our T-bills hit 9% (which they might; junk bonds, yo!), then our indebtedness explodes as trillions more are added to our growing debt just due to increased interest-service (and as we have no way of paying that, we just add that new debt to the old debt and take out even newer debt to pay for that). A scenario that looks pretty likely is our debt:GDP ratio hitting 250% by 2030. But don't worry; that won't happen. The system will explode before ever permitting such a ludicrous ratio.
The United States and JUSTICE BREYER complain of the grave international consequences that will follow from Leal's execution. Congress evidently did not find these consequences sufficiently grave to prompt its enactment of implementing legislation, and we will follow the law as written by Congress. We have no authority to stay an execution in light of an "appeal of the President," presenting free-ranging assertions of foreign policy consequences, when those assertions come unaccompanied by a persuasive legal claim.

during the president's press conference last week... he mentioned eliminating a tax loophole for corporate jets six different times, pretending it's the GOP's commitment to those loopholes standing in the way of a grand bargain to lower the deficit. Beyond that, Obama spoke about the tax loopholes as if they were fiscally significant, offering us the choice between allowing tax loopholes for corporate jet and gutting student loans, food safety, the weather service, and more. The game Obama was playing was both ludicrous and self-indicting.
