Opposing Tyranny

Today was the 563rd anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, and thousands of Turks commemorated the event by gathering to pray in front of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Led by a group called the Anatolian Youth Association, the devout crowd demanded that Hagia Sofia be returned to use as a mosque. The structure has been a museum since 1934.

…On this day in 2001 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the disabled golfer Casey Martin can use a cart to ride in tournaments. This was a compounding of the problem that the ADA is blatantly unconstitutional and adding court jurisdiction over professional golf which is also BS.

During his visit to Hiroshima — the first by an American president — Barack Hussein Obama expressed remorse for the death toll in World War Two. Mr. Obama also spoke of his hope for a world without nuclear weapons.

Two Libyan migrants in Malta were arrested and charged with attempted murder for attacking three bouncers with samurai swords last weekend. The two suspects deny committing any crimes. Both of them are said to be wanted in Libya on unspecified charges.

A regional educational authority in Switzerland has ruled that students must shake their teacher’s hand at the beginning and end of classes. Previously, two culture-enriching teenaged brothers had refused to shake their female teacher’s hand, because the Koran forbade them to touch members of the opposite sex. However, the higher authority has now overruled their exemption, and the brothers must shake hands with their teacher, just as other students do.

The latest evidence from the crash of EgyptAir Flight 804 indicates that the plane may have exploded before plunging into the Mediterranean. The body parts of passengers that have been recovered so far are in small pieces, and some show burn marks that suggest they were close to an explosion. A terrorist bomb is now considered the most likely reason for the crash.
