A Muslim immigrant to Australia named Aladdin Sisalem is unhappy about a headline that appeared in a newspaper, so he is taking the paper to court. The offending headline in The Herald Sun read “Islam Must Change”, and Mr. Sisalem insists that these words violate Victoria’s Racial and Religious Tolerance Act. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal will hear the case.

In other news, in the town of Lawrenceville, Georgia, a woman wearing a burka (name: Aisha Ibrahim) was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a homeowner and members of his family using an American flag pulled off the family’s mailbox.…

A proposal for Germany to recognize the 1915 Armenian Genocide is being presented in the Bundestag tomorrow. Ahead of the vote, both Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened Germany with consequences if it recognizes the genocide. Neither Chancellor Merkel nor Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel will be present for the vote.

In other news, an Iraqi man who gained asylum in Austria by professing to be a homosexual has been jailed for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in a swimming pool. There is no word on whether the man mistook the pre-pubescent girl for a boy.…

The news feed is light tonight. Our American tipsters are probably eating BBQ down at the VFW hall, but I’m not sure where everyone else is.

The weird news story of the day concerns two alligators who were found feasting on a human corpse in a canal in Broward County, in South Florida. According to police, the body had been in the water awhile before the alligators started on it, and it has not been identified yet — it’s not even clear whether it is male or female. The whole thing sounds like the opening sequence in a “Law and Order” episode.…

…On this day in 1971 in accordance with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed by a Democrat congress in 1968, observation of Memorial Day began occurring on the last Monday in May for the first time, rather than on the traditional Memorial Day of May 30. This was passed with little or no opposition from the Republican Party and was designed to give federal workers more three day holidays.…

An estimated 700 would-be migrants are thought to have perished in several shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, according to the Italian coast guard. One of the capsized boats was carrying about 550 passengers. Meanwhile, nineteen would-be migrants were rescued from an inflatable boat in the English Channel by the British coast guard.

…Memorial Day. On this day in 1806 Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson in a duel after Dickinson had accused Jackson's wife of bigamy. There had been a long history of amenity between Jackson and Dickenson. Dickenson was also a noted duelist so Jackson killing him was no small feat.
