…On this day in 1641 the English ship Merchant Royal, carrying a treasure of over 100,000 pounds of gold (worth over 1 billion pounds today) and 400 bars of silver, plus chests of pieces of eight from the "New World", was lost at sea off Land's End near England. To this day, after numerous searches, this wreck and all that gold and silver has never been found (or at least publicly). Note that in the law "finders are not keepers" as the old saying goes. The governments of the world ALWAYS want their cut, whether it belonged to them in the beginning or not.…
