…On this day in 1919 the Chicago Race Riot erupted leading to 38 fatalities and 537 injuries over a five-day period. The riot was sparked by an incident but had been building for some time due to tensions from incoming Southern blacks and the existing ethnic Irish who were already settled in the area.
