A knife-wielding man ran amok in a Minnesota mall last night, stabbing and wounding eight people before he was shot dead by an off-duty police officer. The perpetrator was a Somali-American who was alleged to have invoked Allah during his rampage, and asked at least one victim whether he was a Muslim before stabbing him. The incident had nothing to do with Islam. Meanwhile, investigators in New York and New Jersey are trying to discover a motive for yesterday’s bomb explosions, for which the Islamic State has claimed responsibility.

In other news, Angela Merkel’s party (the CDU) suffered its worst electoral defeat ever today in local elections in Berlin, receiving less than 20% of the vote. The SPD (socialists) gained the largest percentage, while AfD (Alternative für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany) received 14%.…
