The original intent of this law was to prevent the formation of monopolies by large corporations and to regulate competition between businesses. Although the law has been upheld by the courts it is really unconstitutional as hell. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the power to regulate competition. It has been upheld by improperly using the commerce clause.
