In the end people's telephone bills went up and service became poorer. The only people that made out were businesses and folks who made a lot of long distance calls.…

I remember buying our first phone, and the quality products and service of the spun-off SW Bell. We thought we had killed the beast, whatever the cost. Today, with all the consequent improvements, the monster still thrives, more than ever!
