Though that accident took place five months ago, the hazard continues as heavy storms — one hit the area Tuesday — wash more soil into the creek.

The sediment flows carry dangerous mercury, lead, arsenic and chromium downstream to Lake Oconee and then to the Oconee River — home to many federally and state protected species.

United States of America

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

“I proceeded to let the dad know I didn’t appreciate what he said in no uncertain terms, but I did it so I wouldn’t scare the child,” he said, adding that the father’s assertion is the opposite of what he wants children, especially young children, to take away from an encounter with law enforcement.

Norman, Oklahoma …Childers grabbed a lever-action rifle and chased the man down, but once he had him cornered he remembered the gun was not loaded. So he told the man to take off running, and said he would let him go if he got to the end of the driveway before Childers caught him again. In the interim, Childers grabbed ammo, loaded the rifle, and jumped on his four wheeler. He caught the alleged home invader before he reached the end of the driveway and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.…

Long Underwear Heroes are Dead

Spider-Man

Spider-Man was created in 1962, but could his costume have been inspired by a child's Halloween costume from the 50's? … Steve Ditko [when asked] about the costume… “The burden of proof is on the person who makes the assertion, claim, charge. Some clippings, etc., are not rational proof of anything but some clippings, etc.”

Pronouns and name corrected for accuracy. Now let go of my neck. Backlash? Over a man pretending to be a woman competing against women? In powerlifting!?? Can they remove all your Y chromosomes retroactively to birth?

Film is dead

[Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston, Esquire):] "The fun thing about them is that they’re ageless. You play them in terms of who they are spiritually. Their mannerism and physicality are not tied to age. We played them like 9-year-old kids. They still have that quality. The comic potential of that becomes even better as it becomes more discordant. It will be funnier because they’re older."

Bender

Researchers created the lightweight, leaping robot after studying how pond-skimmer insects push off the water’s surface without sinking. …

Wait, weren't there little (non-robotic) water-skimming toys of similar design, years ago? Or am I having false childhood memories?

…“She said, ‘You’re in the military?’ I said, ‘Yes,’ …She said, ‘I can’t serve you.’ … I asked, ‘Are you serious?’ She looked at me like she was offended…”

…And so it goes that commander-in-chief Barack Obama can once again lay claim to having achieved something that no previous president has — gapped the Persian Gulf of an American CVBG. Of course lots of folks will say what difference at this point does it make? It’s simple. We will not have a platform by which we can launch strikes against ISIS — not that they’ve been overly effective anyway, since we don’t have G-FACs (Ground Forward Air Controllers).…

…Ladies and gents, resulting from the text message I received yesterday, I can confirm that the United States Navy is bringing charges against Lt. Cmdr Timothy White for illegally discharging a firearm on federal property. … What kind of freaking idiots are in charge of our Armed Forces — pardon me, our “unArmed Forces”? Defending Ourselves

…At a time when our borders are unsecured, at a time when we have sanctuary cities providing free operating zones for criminal illegal immigrants being released by our government, at a time when we have the domestic threat of militant Islamic jihadists and at a time when we are decimating our U.S. military capacity and capability, we must reject the notion of making America defenseless.

President Obama and the liberal progressive left must never forget the reason why Americans stood at Lexington Green and Concord Bridge. A tyrant wanted gun control – the answer was the “shot heard ‘round the world.”…

Governing Ourselves

…A Texas farmer finally received land back that was taken from him by a court and given to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) more than thirty years ago. It also brings hope and a pathway to victory for other farmers who stand to lose up to 90,000 acres of land to the BLM.…

Mitch McConnell is a disgrace and a sell out… but then again so is John Boehner. At least Harry Reid and Pelosi didn’t pretend to be conservative. The Republican leadership passes EVERYTHING Obama wants.
