Never Said They Were Bigger Than God

More #TheBeatles

The Beatles never said they were bigger than God, or whatever people thought and the media misreported. John had disdained fandom by noting how, among modern pop audiences, the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. He wasn't saying it was a good thing. And John really mangled the later "apology/explanation." Too little too late to stop the tide of fervent religious indignation. For that ill-stated truth, preachers led album-burnings. Oh, those valuable, precious LPs!!

Poor ol' John was a sad seeker of truth. He tried on lots of isms, none fit him well. He did not Jimi-Janis-Jim himself to death, despite giving it a good try; I credit him for his recovery. His best achievement was sobering up and hanging up his guitar and holing up at home to raise his (latter) kid.

What John never found was a solid personal theology. That's a tragedy, but, in that way, he represents a whole generation - or five - of folks, so many of whom didn't find soul satisfaction in old systems, and were seeking something they knew not what, and as such often falling into the clutches of pilgrim-robbers.

If John had lived and found Jesus...

...would he still let Yoko sing on the albums?

I'll submit to Ace, if he wants to post it, my thesis, "Imagine: Misinterpreted by Everybody Except Me".
