Buy a Ticket

Always appreciate your selection of videos. (And always bookmarked on my heap o'links.)

For the first time in memory, I find myself arguing with Whittle on this one, though. There's no question about most of what he says, that it's dumb to think you'll win the big jackpot, not a great idea to enrich the government, and you have a far, far better chance at success (but not perfect as he seems to imply) by planning well and working hard. And folks who spend far more than they can afford are being stupid.

I believe he sets a false dichotomy, though, that one can't buy a few days of silly fun, if one can easily afford it. Maybe I'm just self-justifying, though. I don't gamble, with the sole exception of playing the same numbers, week after week, year after year, regardless of the jackpot. Never won more than I've lost, but spend far less in a year than I spend on dining out or ordering in over a couple of months. (Although some other stick-in-the-mud will argue even that is wrong.)
