Orrin Hatch and those who oppose him

Mark Levin dings FreedomWorks over campaign to oust Hatch

I'm far from a Hatch fan. He may have campaigned that Moss had been in too long, but coupled with that (so I understand) was that Moss had lost touch with his constituency. Hatch is now the longest-serving Senator, but I'm not a supporter of term limits for term limits sake alone, which could just as easily turn a good and popular man out as a bad one.

When I heard him on Levin a while back, I only heard a little of the interview, but much as I like Levin, I didn't even like the reasons Levin liked him. And I'm certainly glad Bush, not Hatch, won the 2000 primary! But I've got to consider Levin about Hatch's declared enemy in what seems to be a faux Tea Party group, Dick Armey and Freedom Works: "Armey had a radical, open-borders, pro-amnesty position record in Congress and has recently endorsed that position as head of FreedomWorks. Do most Tea Party activists agree? Of course not.” What is the machiavelli behind that contest? And Sarah likes him. The friend of a friend is not necessarily a friend, and the enemy of one's enemy is not necessarily one's friend, either, but that should at least be cause for a solid second look. Any thoughts on Levin & Hatch, or Armey & the Freedom Works opposition?

I'm not particularly well-informed about him. There's things to like about Hatch, like his long support of a balanced budget, opposition to Obamacare, things to dislike, such as his ideas about copyright law or the DREAM act, and things to question. In any case, to be "primaried" doesn't necessarily mean "something better." Might it not be, sometimes, better the RINO you know better than the devil you don't?

Fortunately, for me, it's all just armchair noodling. I'm not in Utah. :)
