Memes can spread like wildfire

Sven, you still there? (What am I saying?)

I appreciate your reply. Honestly, when at first it was just you, I wasn't concerned. When others seemed to confirm and amplify what I considered misrepresentation, that's when I became concerned, hence my "group mentality" comment. Memes can spread like wildfire.

I'm well aware of the acidity of the topic. An ex-bro-in-law used to joke, in his thick Ecuadorian accent, "the problem with stereotypes is, some blacks DO have rhythm, some Irish ARE drunks..." and he would roll on with one after another until I think he hit everybody. Most white boys CAN'T dance or jump. (It's okay if I say it.) Anyway, alas, some rich white Republicans were bigots, and some Democrats were on the side of right. And that's well documented, too. Not saying it was the whole picture on the national scale. The original question was, what was a "Conservative Democrat," and since I knew some, back when the species still existed, I talked about 'em. Doesn't mean I'm unaware of the general patterns of misrepresentation of history re Dems v Repubs regarding race in the South. I never said anything about quitting AoS (even if some might wish it, I suppose). I just meant I won't venture trying to relate my experience on that topic again. Even though, um, it looks like I just did. But you know I was serious about reputation being all one has.

There was a "conservative" dust bowl era Democrat base which characterized Oklahoma until the days of Goldwater, Gov Bellmon, and in no small part my own dad's political work. Oklahoma has become the Republicanist of the true-blue states because the Oklahoma Republicans quit being RINOs (as we'd say today) interested more in the profits of politicking, and became more conservative and interested in winning elections on principle. This transformation of the state, mostly in my lifetime, is one thing that gives me hope for the nation.

Thanks again, Sven. Now go outside and play. I'm going to.
