Inimical to our values
@chemjeff: Part of the confusion may be that Islam is just so inimical to our values in so many ways, it seems inherently insulting, whatever the intentions.
"There is no God but (name)" doesn't matter, because a sincere truth-seeker can call Him Clyde and find Him, but the insistence on a particular name, like the insistence that there is one prophet, that's the first clue of exclusivity (definitely NOT "co-exist"!) and intolerance. It's downhill fast from there.
