Family Reunion Weekend

Home is good. Even when it's a disaster, it's still home.

It's Family Reunion Weekend.

The big party is Saturday, spilling over into Sunday, over at my cousin's place on the lake.

Some of the clan, mostly Mom's brother's family from Alaska, are already down at my Mom's, where we plan to be tomorrow. So we can get good and sick of everybody before the party even starts.

Just kidding. I like that side of the family. Most of 'em. Solid, hard working folk - they could almost be Oklahomans!

Mom's been busy fixing up the place for the influx of guests. Naturally, she ended up with One Ginormous Project.

Seems that she discovered ruined, moldy floors in the bar, behind her kitchen desk, and under the kitchen cabinets, all one big common-wall area.

It was presumed a leaking water line to the ice machine was the cause of the problem...

Spent weeks getting everything pulled out and running fans to dry everything out. Finally, barely in time for her guests, she got people in to replace what wood needed replacing, re-tiling the bar floor, and so on.

Last thing was re-installing the ice maker. Took several "experts." One said before they could re-install the machine, it needed a gasket. (?) Another said it didn't need a gasket. (!)

Finally, a real plumber said, you know, the condensation from this thing just drains out onto the floor.... (!!!!)

Contacted the guy who'd put the machine in years before, and he said, oh, yeah, that's right. I thought you wanted it that way!

So, the damage had been going on practically since the thing was installed.

My sister the lawyer has been toting up the damages and considering action.

Most amazing thing was how neat Mom managed to keep the house while all this was going on. I didn't get that chromosome.
