391 ... He brought you Charlie, so you will always remember him. i will remember you and him in my intentions tonight.

Thanks. Sad that Max couldn't've just fit right in as a housecat like Charlie did. (Came in, flopped down, said, "I'm home, family!") I think Max had been abused or scared badly, and watching him becoming happy, comfortable with us, tamer, was such a joy, and makes his disappearance that much harder.

373-Chemjeff: Sad news for Caturday, yeah, all part of the fabric. Kittens are delightful, cats can be a comfort, but then there's that getting old and dying (or disappearing without a trace)!

Good night, gracies.

182 ...My heart belongs, as it always has, to ... etc etc etc!

Etc. [warm fuzzy feeling] Wow! I made the list!

Heh. Hi back, Mrs alThor

Today's good news bad news pet report.

Good news. Old shep, who could hardly stand up long enough to pee, now seems to be moving good distances around the yard. When we're not looking. Either he's getting better, or he's been playing us for suckers to get attention.

Sad news. Max is a feral male cat who never got snipped. He was becoming tamer and is very dear to us because just about a year ago he helped bring to us a lost yellow kitten, my little buddy Charlie. Max has not come home for four days. I'd like to think of him happily making little black kittens down the road somewhere, but the coyotes have been thick and close this year and I fear the worst. Maybe he'd've hung around the house more if we'd had his fancies removed, I don't know. Not the first cat to just vanish, but it's always hard and there's always something we could have done better.

Think I'll go see if I can find me some meteors.

Wow, I am so impressed. First Stuck comes up with that wild tale about his workplace, and then he starts socking this Hummingbird character, and now he's pretending like Wolverine is real. That part about Wolverine laying into that gang of carjackers with the nunchuks and the throwing stars was what made me realize it was all imaginary. Good stuff, though.

A couple of mild, fun SF series, perhaps not 10yo fare, I dunno (my kids are all well past 10yo) but I thought I'd mention these since I thought of them. Quantum Leap. And a quirky one my family liked: Early Edition.

Warehouse 13 is a little darker than Eureka, but they are companion series, with crossovers. (I'm a couple seasons behind on both. sadface)

Wild Wild West seemed like a good recommendation. I would never miss an ep in the original run. Wonder how its steampunk secret agent fun stands up for the modern Battlestarwars kids' tastes, though.

Then for another old series that inspired a lot of us, there's the Avengers. Mrs Peel! http://bit.ly/JsCxwj

Stuck's story recalls ancient days debating Meaningful Stuff on Compuserve forums. One's debate opponent usually digs in deeper, practically never conceding, becoming enlightened or informed. But then there's the emails from folks who never post, shy lurkers, or light chatters who don't want to get into the ring with the heavy arguers, and they're folks who express real appreciation for the point the opponent missed.

Come to think of it, Jesus pursuaded few of his challengers, but the crowd recognized and appreciated when he would one-up the lawyers' trick questions (and deliver a greater truth at the same time).

SoS presented the options, and Che-shirt made his choice, not the Good choice, alas (and I even had some hope for him after the "do you love your mother" day). But it will be -- is -- clear to reasonable onlookers that Cheboy's destruction was prepended with self-. KnowotImean? He didn't learn -- too bad for him -- but the consequences for others can be so positive!

What did I just say? I can't remember. Must be time to brush tooth and aim at bed.

Just checking to see if there was anything world-shaking in the first 100 messages. Not that I found. Can't stay. Gotta go let the dogs in before the storms hit. Play nice, folks.

Aaaand before I go...

I've never learned the vain art of self-plugola, but I doubt this little offering will make me rich; just for fun then:
Ten elegantly simple, fatalistically resigned bumper stickers like "Oh, well, guess it's Romney 2012." http://bit.ly/HU7wWv

If any of the slogans look familiar, as if lifted from Ace comments, it's sheerly coincidence. Great minds and all that.

Tammy al-Thor,

Don't know if you caught my belated reply couple nights ago.
Here: http://bit.ly/J5HG0t Thanks for asking. Seems to be a season where something new hits every day. Shouldn't say that. Nothing hit today, but it's still got ten minutes left!

the "Obama eats dog" jokes will become tiresome.

True but. All humor goes through cycles. As my kids learned early from a Garfield cartoon [h/t prob to writer Mark Evanier], keep repeating it and the joke becomes funny again after a while. I think this will keep growling until election time. It's a howler. Derived from his own tail, it'll go fur. They can't muzzle it; they can't stop the wags. Those are my haunches.

The Hitler's dog vid is a perfect example of the genre, involving numerous anachronisms, ludicrous extremes, conflicting sympathies, and served up fast to meet the current meme cycle! Congratulations!

I thought "Fuffy" was a nice touch. One of the great things about this well-worn movie meme is knowing what's coming visually, and here is excellent anticipation and payoff for that moment when Adolph tremblingly reaches for his glasses.

I may just write a check for a double-wide somewhere in Arkansas and pack it up

Peaches, do I recall right you're in the People's Republic of California? If so, and you head east, and you hit Arkansas...
you went one state too far. IMAO

Double-wides can be okay. Avoid floodplains and hilltops and trailer parks. Nestle into a nice valley somewhere the naders don't go and you're good.
