About half a shot of brandy is all we had here.

Milady says, oh, bought rum the other day but left it in town.

What good is that?

Now I'm down to some too-sweet port, but I don't think it'll sit on the brandy very well. Might have to give up and snooze.

The abandoned pets restaurant? No thanks. PB&J burgers? No thanks. Burger with a hot dog? Welllll.... mayyyybe, for the novelty.

You know what's good on everything? Santa Fe style chile verde (not to be confused with actual beef chili). An acquired taste, though, I suppose.

Ah, be it ever so humble, there's no place like home, where the dog and the catalopes roam.

Saw two foxes race across the road in front of us on the drive home - that was different. They sure can move!

What's the what tonight, compatriots? Tell me quickly; I may not be upright much longer.

Hey, that 12 Days of Global Warming video did pretty good, keeping the visuals lively and varied. Actually sat through the whole thing... which is unusual for "12 Days" in any form.

cth: It didn’t exactly go in the toilet though, right? It went into the economy. I mean, they purchase goods and services with that money, don’t they?

Hmmm. Well, I suppose, but if it went to those who write ads for Democrats, and into the coffers of the left-loving Laughingstock Media, there would be some "trickle down" to the ordinary folks lower on the chain, but I would still contend that most of that loot lost value along the way.

But what do I know. I am not an economist. :)

One oft-noted characteristic of the Evil Ones is how you can tell what they're up to by what they accuse others of doing - projection. Yes, there is indeed a coup attempt going on, as they claim. But it's not Trump - the Demoncrats are doing it.

And did you notice that discussion of the content of all those hacked emails has somehow been dropped from the "news"?

I'd like to see some investigation into the vote count here in Oklahoma, because, allegedly, there were some votes actually cast for HIllary. I suppose it's not entirely impossible, but it seems awfully unlikely.

I blame Putin.

Among many other of my too-many news feeds, I had ignored NotW since back in October, because [insert excuses here]. I'm happy to say I just got caught up on 94 items (although I admit I might've skipped a few, but only a few). Hope to again be able to stay current now.

Belated congrats to The Master for his 1500th weekly column. I didn't skip any of those!!

Howdy again. Nice to be home, warm home on a cold night.

Y'all comment too much I can't keep up anymore. What I can get to is fun and informative as ever, though.

cthulhu #666 .....and?

Lame.

cthulhu #668 Like riding a bicycle....

After getting prosthetic legs, maybe? (Yeah, I remember last night's miss.) "and"?? sheesh. What happened to the clever cthulhu we used to know and love admire?

Post: Johnny Mathis - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Is anybody else having trouble listening to this tune now without hearing the words "It's the most wonderful time in eight years"?

And that's my 2½¢ worth for tonight, and I'm not sure if you owe me or I owe you. As if I had two cents to rub together anyway.

Howdy, hordelings!

Before I get down to reading the no-doubt excellent post and surely unfathomably deep comments, I'd like to pass along an obituary from the local paper.

Do you feel like you've had a full life, good relationships, and significant accomplishments? Well, meet the late James Andrew "Jimmie" Whittenburg III (1933 - 2016) and feel humbled.

"I believed that to do more, all I needed was to get up earlier and have a faster airplane."

bob: …Most of the time they’re just singing, which is great, but not quite what I need for happy dance Friday.…

Oh, understood. I hope my response-playlist and comment weren't taken as critical of your dance mob selection (which Milady & I just watched again).

I did include your "favorite" in my playlist, and I saw but did not include the USAF one - don't know why I didn't, except, maybe, my eyes were worn out by that time. :D

Here's a fun secular-Christmas dance mob I didn't include - in case you haven't seen it.

I generally greatly enjoy fun flashmobs. I especially like the way kids and couples and older folks react to a flash mob, don’t you?

About this Carson School of Management flash mob video: It was well produced. Great set-up, good camera work, nice vocals and dance coordination. But, I couldn’t help noticing something missing from all that “Holiday” celebration.

What do they sing in this one? Just “Deck the Halls.” The last scene shows a big banner “Diversity in the Workplace.” (Yeah, “diversity,” the applied meaning of which in effect is sadly ironic, or course.) And the final frame? “Happy Holidays.”

Well, I won’t begrudge anybody their enjoyment of a secular “Xmas.” Jingle Bells and Christmas Trees and Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, but… but… I was inspired to spend a couple of hours tracking down spiritually inspiring Christmas flash mobs. I made a playlist.

Christmas Best Flash Mobs playlist

(I may have snuck in a few not-exactly-Christmas bits, like Amazing Grace and Ode to Joy…)

This is what life in Heaven will be like. In a life to come, we will all have perfect voices, and perfect pitch and rhythm, so that we can fully express our joy and thankfulness. We will spontaneously burst out in songs of praise and joy reverberating in the halls on high.

Meanwhile, you’re at the train station, or the mall, an airport, or a hospital, or just out and about, in New York, or Korea, or even Oklahoma, and suddenly folks start singing “Joy to the World” or “Silent Night” or “Come All Ye Faithful…” Even when it’s not pitch-perfect or always on the beat, it can be Heavenly on Earth.

You might want to make sure you have a soft hanky (or two) handy. Tissues can be scratchy after enough of them.

Thanks for the inspiration, bluebird.

I would read the comments, but... I'm still back at the top of the pet thread... been a busy weekend.

I think my brain slows down in the cold, which considering it's not that fast normally is not good.

But I can look at pictures! (Each one worth 1000 of those moldy old word-thingies.) Northernlurker's bookshelf, with whole shelves of books on-end instead of spine showing, books stuffed in on top of books, books stacked in front of books-- all looks terribly familiar to me. And I even have that blue chair!

cthulhu -- heh -- you're plainly out of practice on nailing the number. I'm sure you'll get up to speed soon enough.

Now that the number has passed, I figure I can go to bed and enjoy sweet dreams, knowing the blog is performing in its usual chaotic perfection.

And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name.

"Sea" y'all later.

Because it's slow this time of night, I've been going back and catching the first 600 comments I missed, about 100 at a time, then reading the latest. Just a little confusing.

I've been mostly catching open threads late and playing catch-up in recent days, so I don't reply on things said hours ago. Same for this thread. At least it keeps me from saying too many stupid things. Like this.

hey, cthulhu! I witnessed the announcement of your prison's unlocking earlier, and anticipated your return in force, but still a pleasant surprise to see you back.

Hope you had a nice respite and got lots of things done in the so-called real world - which of course you won't, now, because you're back on the web's biggest timewaster blog.

Seriously, CDR M, thanks. You should avoid the self-criticism and let the Horde be the judge of the value of the work. In our drunken raucous stupor, we might not have noticed it was crappy...!

Just got caught up on the posts since Halloween. Been experiencing lots of tech probs, offline distractions, and -- um -- whatever other excuses I can come up with. Alas, I didn't blog all those great posts I just went through, with old advertisements, cute & funny animals, and paredolia, until this one. But I enjoyed them for myself. Thanks, Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving, and in case I don't get back here in time, Merry Christmas. (Happy New Year... Happy Valentine's... hey, my life has been disrupted lately, just trying to be sure...)

The Real St. Nicholas contrasts "Santa Claus" with St Nick.

…Santa is about receiving—that is why young children do not traditionally ask each other, “What did you give others for Christmas?” but rather, “What did you get for Christmas?” Santa is the patron saint of consumerism. The authentic St. Nicholas knows that while it is important to receive graciously, almsgiving still results in receiving more grace.…

Above link, a link to an article about the reconstruction, and the following comment, c/o FenelonSpoke, often called the unofficial pastor over at Ace of Spades blog:

"…St. Nicholas was a real person who defended the divinity of Jesus at the council of Nicea. He argued against Arius who didn't think Jesus was divine and got so angry that he slapped Ariius.…"

I knew the Council was contentious, but wasn't aware the Council got that physically rowdy! :D
