* brandy really kicks in *

Twenty-one years ago yesterday, I published my first webpage. MindfulWebworks has been a thing since. Not much of a thing, but a thing. The web's best-kept secret, as I like to say.

In the last month... website and hardware problems.

My web host said my database was 2x the size limit. They shut down my site.

What, I said? Looks like 1/2 the limit to me.

Oh, said techies, that wasn't the problem - you have too many records.

What, I said? That wasn't in the rules! How does that affect anything?

Oh, never mind, they said, it's the connection string. You can pay for our techies to fix that.

Whatever. $30 later, the website is back up, but I have no clue what went wrong in the first place, nor whether it might happen again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the 2yo tablet has decided I don't need touchscreen, speakers, or other basic functions. Hardware meltdown. That was my main life support.

And now, the ol' XP desktop, so important to me, has taken to freezing up randomly. Could be fine for hours. Could lock up during bootup. Looks like a RAM problem.

Basically, this old mindfulguy is out of the webworking business for the time being. With no other side of the time being in sight.

Interesting times.

/complaint.

I realize that the Evolution of Rock goes back to the 19th Century. Or fifteenth or something.

I'm aware of the confluence of threads of folk, jazz, blues, and so on, that brought us to modern rock.

When I was a youngish boomer I thought how old the rockers were. When I look back it's sometimes amazing how YOUNG hit rockers were back In The Day. 4+20

But, then, I see, Chuck Barry, RIP at 90, just six years younger THAN MY MOTHER... and I, well, wow... time does march on, doesn't it?

Well, rock on, universe, rock on.

Been putting tape and post-its over the cameras for ever. Used to get teased about it by my neffuse. Laughed a little less when I told them last year that Comey recommended it.

Jim said upthread a company could profit making hard-switch-offs for cam & mic. I've always said that. I'd buy one!! Must be hard switch off, not soft, tho.

Cameras are (relatively) easy to block. BUT IT's SOUND that's the real spy.

I had a headset - stereo ear + mic - that had gone bad. I took the plug, cut off the rest, and plugged that into the cell. Did NOT NOT NOT cut off the mic as anticipated. (Ominous basso music)

I'm glad Mary finally fixed the spelling on B'boro in her nic. Was wrong for days. Schnappes is a dreadful drug.

HI, HORDE!

I'm in no condition to be commemmenting. And yet, there's so many things said upstream on which I would comment! Lemme see... I'll think of one...

Some funny classics, many pix new to me. Great collection as always.

Favorite new-to-me is the escalator! Because, look! Got all the way to the bottom!

Favorite classic is the truck-boat-trailer – award winner for “you’re doing it wrong!”

I will, Mindful Webworker

OregonMuse #376: ...It sounds like you've got quite...uh, an interesting family....

Putting it mildly. Didja ever see the documentary "Crumb"? Similar but not quite that bad. :O

I could write a book, except I'll need for more of the protagonists to become deceased first.

phoenixgirl #374: ...aw.....must be comforting and upsetting at the same time.....

Yeah, that about sums it up, PG.

Comforting to know he hasn't been dumped in a cave with his squatter "friends" cashing his checks. The upset, the frustration with his psychic state, goes back decades.

Threatening to shoot his own daughter when she came by to show him his grandkids isn't too crazy, right? (That was a while back.)

Some nuclear families have a higher TNT yield than others.

Howdy y'all. Still on the art thread? Is the ewok pickling in Valu-Rite again this morning?

HEY! Little sister flew in from Kentucky, joined by her son from L.A., and they drove over to Show-Me state to track down our long-estranged, hermit-like, and slightly psycho older brother. (Little sister just sat at our eldest brothers' deathbed last month, so I guess she's on a family-track.)

She managed to find him. We're heading down to Mom's in the City to talk with Sis about what she found out.

At least our 96yo mom got to find out he's still alive. Well, we all did. So, spare a prayer for the spirit of family, local and universal. Have a day.

That was fun, WeirdDave.

Glad to see the marching geese have protection from those deadly eagles.

Or something. Quip-circuits dim tonight.

Hello, hello.

(To the tune of Chicago ♬ "Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care?")

…almost no child in Oklahoma City between the ages of 6 and 12 can read a clock.…

But their self-esteem and knowledge of condoms is faaaabulous.

A cousin lives down around OKC. I'll bet you every one of their many children, including the youngest little guy, can read a clock. Of course, they're serious home-schooling Christians.

We only have one small analog clock in our house, but us olde phartes think in old-fashioned, translating digital-to-analog constantly. Milady asks the time, and if I see "4:42," I'll say, "quarter of five." (You don't need a round clock face to understand half-past or quarter-after, but you do need math, and those same kids can't divide 60 by 4.)

Ironic (or something) the timing of this story, as it's Daylight Saving Time week, in which Government tells everyone that 11am is now Noon. #FakeTime (Ominous bass riff)

(Little known true proven scripture fact - Joshua 10 has the earliest recorded experiment in Daylight Saving Time.)

I searched YouTube for "young girl escaped north korea" and found these two, possibly long and short versions of same thing? (Haven't watched them yet - laptop troubles.)

(Getting caught up on several weeks' backlog of Retorts, but enjoying every one even if a few days late.)

I've only seen Bee in a couple of clips on the web, but I had heard about this cancerous Nazi nonsense. Although several critics got on this, I don't recall anyone else noting as well the non-apology for throwing the Nazi accusation at all.

Your retort is so forceful - I don't know your voice, Dianny, but when I read this, I kept hearing it in the outraged voice of Paul Joseph Watson. That's a compliment.

(Also, always enjoy your photomanipulations Bee and the child "skinheads" was especially poignant.)

Great Oinking OMGs! You say the news-ish-people have a copy of something purporting to be Trump's tax returns and are going to talk about it on the tee-vee thingy!?! Thank you, Ace! This is truly five-alarm flaming-skull DefConInfinity news.

So, now, it's all over. We don't have to wait for his tax returns to be analyzed. He's cooked. Trump train status: derailed.

Trump and his entire administration should resign, and all his executive orders and any bills he signed should be voided.

And, of course, Hillary, whose turn it rightfully was, shall then by world popular acclaim become President of the Unglued State of Americans.

I am so tired of the crazed caterwauling of the Enemies of Americans. They are miserable, despicable folk.

So, for myself, I can't resist
At least popping in to say "Hi!"

Now to back up to the EMT and be caught up on here by the time Ace arises... I need to get up earlier!

My 2¢ on the suppositional scenario...

• Book

All good little church-raised chilluns gotta say "Bible," o'course, but I'm afraid I'd need a huge, annotated study version - There are parts of the OT I've never actually explored.

But, then, I think of Lord of the Rings - entertaining and uplifting. And long.

But, maybe, the complete works of Shakespeare? That would help pass the days leaning against that one palm tree.

• LP (to play on solar-powered record player)

Can I have an iPod full of the SCOAMF's greatest speeches? Ha ha (urp) just joking.

That old "Environments" ambient album with sounds of the surf.
