Nice pic! After so many pastel wash images, this one hit my eyes like a backlit stained glass window. Nice use of form and space. The bright sky jumps out at you.

Plus, Walco.

"Canadian jihadi's parents are a Muslim and a radical feminist."

Could there be a better example of the extreme cognitive dissonance that characterizes the Regressives alliance? Feminists who critisize followers of the great liberator Christ but cry for multiculti understanding for people who mutilate women and store them in bags. Gays who feel threatened by gentle bakers and photographers and ministers who only want the right to say "no," but not a word about those who hang gays on high in public. The vast cult of atheism which has no problem with the vast cult of jihadism. It's not like the Axis, allies of convenience who would betray each other as soon as necessary. No, the jihadi and the feminist are in bed together. Hillary and Huma.

I simply cannot wrap my mind around the enormous dissociative gymnastics such twisted souls must go through to arrive at their confusions.

Commenters are requested today to avoid the Top Headlines Comments thread, if and when it appears, and, despite prohibitive load times, stick with the ONT until Ben's news dump, or rdbrewer's pastel painting post, whichever shows up eventually.

Why? Uhhh&… it's a social experiment. Yeah, that's it.

Just to mention—

Yesterday, following tweets (as repeated here) on the Canadian shooting, at one point the rumors were up to three different shooting incidents and possibly five shooters.

Typical fog of war reporting.

Strangely, though, initial reports of a shooter at the memorial heading into Parliament were accurate enough.

Morning, Glories!

Thanks, Vic! Just happened to tune in just after your newscast started, instead of afterward as usual lately. Even if I track all my newsfeeds at the end of the night, you've got something in the morning I hadn't seen. Many somethings. And even the ones I had, appreciate your "perspective" commentary.

Newsflash (local) - Dutiful Dog Disappointed Day is not Dry

Goodguy the Guarddog asked to be let out this morning, only to be surprised that everything was wet. He decided he could hold it a while and came back in to make obnoxious chewing-on-himself noises.

Update: stopped from obnoxious chewing, he has decided to brave the wet and go bark at shadows in the twilight.

cth > "For me, it was Truth. Another woman I know is just all about Love. Then obviously there’s Beauty. I wish I could remember all of them."

My 2¢ minus tax: I've seen Truth, Beauty, and Goodness as a triad (trio, whatever you'd call it) of facets. Seems we appreciate the forms of God in Beauty, God's wisdom as Truth, and personal, spiritual service as Goodness. Facets of one reality, though, because that which is True is also good and beautiful, etc.

I was under the weather yesterday, and not up to replying, but doing better now. So, belatedly, thanks, Grunt, for your thoughtful reply to my silly, disjointed comments. Helps me have a better scaffolding on which to hang things, and filled in some gaps in my meager understanding. Same with discussion on the She Might Be Crazy thread.

Shortly after I first read your reply, I also ran into this, so, passing it along.
Don't Be Fooled, Pope Francis Will Never Capitulate
Paul Bois / Truth Revolt

Pope Francis has only one vision for the Catholic Church: a church of shepherds, not sheep; of pastors, not clergy; of teachers, not scholars. He wants a Catholic Church that reaches out and changes people's hearts rather than hunkering behind a fortress while the secular world encircles it on all fronts. He has no desire to change doctrine, and the previous synod, wildly misreported by the media, reflected that.

A judge's ruling may cause the issue of the definition of marriage to come before the Supreme Court. (Breitbart)

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court declined to take up the issue of the constitutionality of gay marriage, despite requests from both sides of the issue that it do so. One reason that it is thought to have denied review is that there is not yet a split among the U.S. Courts of Appeals, which have thus far agreed to strike down state traditional marriage laws. If the First Circuit upholds the Puerto Rico ruling, a split would suddenly emerge.

In an elegant decision handed down Tuesday, Perez-Gimenez relies on two basic arguments. First, he notes that the U.S. Constitution is silent on marriage, thus reserving authority over marriage to the states--and adds that a 1972 precedent to that effect in Baker v. Nelson, which other courts have considered void, still holds. Only the Supreme Court, Perez-Gimenez says, may overturn Baker--and to this date, he notes, it has declined to do so.

Second, Perez-Gimenez notes that last year's twin rulings in the celebrated U.S. v. Windsor and Hollingsworth v. Perry do not actually void state powers to ban gay marriage. Hollingsworth v. Perry, he notes, was dealt with on procedural grounds, and though Windsor struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act, it "reaffirms the States’ authority over marriage, buttressing Baker’s conclusion that marriage is simply not a federal question."

Facing Genocide, Yazidis Cry Out For Help (NiceDeb)

“The situation on the mountain has greatly improved,” President Obama said in am Aug. 15 speech. “We broke the ISIL siege of Mount Sinjar. We saved many innocent lives. Because of these efforts, we do not expect an additional operation to help rescue people off the mountain, and it is unlikely that we are going to need to continue humanitarian air drops on the mountain.”

As usual – he was wrong.

With the United States no longer engaged, ISIS retook two towns on Sinjar Mountain Monday, “indicating that the Sunni militant group is advancing on territory that the U.S. had said that it had secured during its airstrikes on the region back in August.”

24-year-old Corporal Nathan Cirillo (additional picture here) was, by some reports, guarding the Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier when he was shot dead.

His murderer, a recent convert to Islam, whose motives are completely unimaginable, was in turn shot by the Sgt. at Arms of Parliament, an RCMP.

Following tweets, as repeated this morning by commenters on Ace of Spades, at one point we were up to three shooting locations and possibly as many as five shooters. Strangely enough, the very first reports proved the most accurate, with rumors abounding until well after the murderer was shot.

Also, Canada was calling it terrorism right away. Crazy, huh?

I… had to stop watching about half-way through. I'll probably watch the whole thing later with Milady and Daughter. The girl's crying was just too much.

When our daughter was about that age, we were walking through the windy city, and daughter asked where mom had gone (around a corner momentarily). I joked that the wind had carried here up by the Sears tower. Error! The resulting look of absolute anguish on daughter's face still haunts me. Little ones at a certain age cannot discern jokes like that, or sarcastic retorts (which I see parents using so often). Subsequent explanation does not assuage the trauma, either.

So here's this girl, her Daddy's gone a long time; perhaps she has some inkling that some daddies with his job don't come back. Suddenly, unannounced, he's there. Thrill. Terror. Relief. Just altogether overwhelming. "Is this real?"

As a kid, I never was big on surprises, as a general rule. Even good ones (mine usually weren't) can make you feel tricked or something like that. Anyway, I deeply sympathized with the little girl.

Not that we haven't seen hearty high school football players weeping almost as openly upon soldier dad's return!

On the day GW Bush was sworn in, our sunset was a spectacularly perfect red, white and blue. I have rarely been so grateful to the Most Highs as I was that day. Not only did we not suffer President Al Gore, but, whatever happened, whatever his policies, I knew without a doubt that George Bush would never, ever be caught with a bimbo in the closet. We would no longer have sexual antics be the thrust (…!) of Presidential news.

Now, here's that awful Lewinsky woman again, proving she's still an idiot and, in the process, the whole smarmy era is resurrected.

Well, at least it can't help Hillary.
