Polliwog: "Listening to Moby Dick on TTS. Surprised at how funny some of the lines are. Still would never actually *read* it."
First requiresd to read Moby Dick Summer before 10th grade. Hated it cCouldn't do it.
Picked it up in my thirties and was amazed how much I liked it.
Re-read it years later and kept waking the wife up laughing out loud.
Either it got better or I did. ![]()

I didn't get the punch line.
Something important seems missing...
Ah!
No Vic today. Our did he get lost on the way to the new commenting address?
Hey, mindful @ #94, your 2nd question: read the previous post.
Oh, hey, thanks, mindful.

No higher ASCII.
Repeat posts.
Okay, it's still AoSHQ!
But, put fix. Nice, Pixy.
1. Morning, Glories!
2. New commenting URL? No port 1080? When/how did this happen?
2.5 Can we use higher than ASCII 128 again, too? Test: mañana?
3. You know what you just don't see anymore? Propeller beanies. I think they should be required attire for all members of Congress.

"…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." (Matthew 17:20)
By this yardstick, seeing as how my life has gone, I've always figured what passes for faith in my soul can barely kick an anthill. Recently, in the weekly Ace of Spades gardening thread, I read this: "amongst the world's smallest seeds are those of a particular orchid that weigh one 35 millionths of an ounce. Mustard seeds are boulders by comparison!"
Finally, a measure I can identify with.
:D
Didn't get a chance to post yesterday, so, a day late.
Has it been twenty-five years already? Hard to believe.
I was nine when the Berlin Wall went up. It was excruciatingly clear to me that they weren't building the wall to keep people out. That defined the Soviet Union for me forever.
My daughter was nine when the Berlin Wall came down. She was as impressed as I had been at her age; fortunately, for new reasons.

President Manlyman Machismo is pulling his tough-guy act, standing up to those ReTHUGlicans (and wild cards in his own admin). So, to help us recall his manly and powerful nature, this poster, c/o Weasel Zippers last April.

How The Islamic State Evolved In An American Prison

I covered this in Losing Iraq (1m13s video) back in January.
Because this was one scene from a larger video I never finished, the video was not listed publicly, but no objection to sharing it.
People who ping-pong between parties easily seem a little suspicious to me, but, then, that Reagan fellow started out as a Democrat.
[Missouri] District 117 State Representative Linda Black of Desloge dropped a bombshell at the state capitol Wednesday when she announced at a news conference that she is switching to the Republican Party after an election in which the GOP built upon its already large majorities.
…
“It’s been a joke around the capitol with Republicans for quite a while that I needed to go ahead and join their party because I was already voting with them on so many issues,” she said.
The main reason Black said she is switching parties is because she found it increasingly difficult to square her social and moral beliefs with those of the Democratic Party.

Jon Huntsman Sr Whines: “The Tea Party Has Ruined The GOP”
(Yahoo Finance c/o Weasel Zippers)
“The Tea Party has completely captivated and ruined the Republican Party today and they’ll show this in 2016,” says Hunstman, author of Barefoot to Billionaire. “Unless a Jeb Bush comes in or John Huntsman Jr., the Republicans don’t have a prayer.”

Yay to Ted Cruz for preemptively standing up for this threat of an Internet Sales Tax (what a nightmare it would be!). And others.
