Well, garden dwellers, I've got about a dozen tabs open. Time to share! :)

______

This properly belonged on the Veterans Day thread, I suppose.

Richard Overton, America’s oldest living veteran still drives, smokes cigars, and would like to get married again. At 108. Born in Bastrop County, Texas on May 11, 1906, he served at Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima. during WW II as a member of the U.S. Army. “I was shot over my head, between my legs, around my ears, and everything, but it wasn't my day to go."

More on this grand American at the Pundit Press link.

I've thought it might be fun to do this kind of "what they know" interview video, contrasting the local tech college, say, with the acclaimed Oklahoma Wesleyan U. Maybe when I've got my webworkin' wheels back on (soon, I hope).

A little context for the first of these two videos, the Texas Tech interviews.

When the vid came out, Ace of Spades commenter drowningpuppies (it's a weird place, AoS) dropped this comment:

In Texas, if you need a lawyer you call a UT grad.
If you need a doctor you call a Baylor grad.
If you need a veterinarian you call an A&M grad.
If you need a pizza you call a Texas Tech grad.

Just for perspective.

Rihanna… Says Best Part of Visit is ‘My President Being Black’

I am getting beyond fed-up with the racists, sexists, and, uh, sexual-orientationists, seeing everything through their grievance filters.

Healthy, normal, well-adjusted people live in that world of which ML King spoke, and judge by character. Every time I hear any of these people, I want to reverse the flow and call 'em as they are.

Rhianna, you're just a straight-up racist bigot.

Oh, oh, now, wait a second. Perhaps she meant Obama had no other actual admirable quality than his pretty skin. If that's the case, I take it back. (Yeah.)

Morning, Glories. Cold one, too.

So, I was thinking about Holder, Jarrett, and all the other unindicted co-conspirators, and the justice that should (but, alas, probably won't) be brought down upon their heads, and I got to wondering...

Is there any revoking or reversing a Presidential pardon? Because, I expect wholesale absolution of the whole gang of traitors is already being readied for the SCOAMF's pen.

How did we get in this mess?

Father Vince Lampert, an exorcist for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, said, “There has been a greater demand for people to call and talk to exorcists. From a faith perspective it may seem like the devil has upped his game, so to speak. I don’t think the devil has upped his game, but more people are inclined to play that game… Demonic possession is a possibility. It could happen but it’s extremely rare.”

William Bigelow at Breitbart

____________

First, I intensely dislike Breitbart the website. If I don't have plug-ins and javascript turned off, you get ads, pop-ups, and all kinds of clutter which my poor old WinXP box can barely handle. That said, it's because I had js and plug-ins turned on when I loaded this page that I discovered there was a video; without js and plug-ins, there is no clue of a video. Also, the video is auto-play and starts with an ad. So, horrible website all around. But, I didn't miss the video.

The video is a Fox News report. Much of it is tedious or sensationalistic, but worth watching for the parts with Father Vince Lampert, an exorcist for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

I've long known about, and greatly appreciate, the approach described in the article and video, regarding the Church's approach to possession. Eminently reasonable to assume what seems like possession is a chemical or psychological problem, but never ruling out the possibility of the real thing. And knowing how to tell the difference.

There was a time in my yoot I would probably have dismissed the whole concept of Devil and demons, at least as popularly conceived. Fortunately, that stage didn't last long. My realization (reading them ol' Gospels in the KJV) of the reality of Jesus, and the reality of his declaring himself the Son of God demanded that I choose whether he was a mostly cool teacher with a nutty streak, or the sanest man ever. Evidence favored the latter. Likewise, after reading about Jesus dealing with the Devil and with possession, and realizing, this was history, not myth, and not legend tipped in with the truth, but the real thing, I began to try to understand more about that aspect, too.

[As sometimes happens when I'm writing here, I rambled on for 'way too many subsequent paragraphs for a comment, so I cut the whole thing. Pasted to a file, though. Might be useful. :) ]

What would you say is the most remarkable thing of this photo of Obama faking planting a tree in China?

Someone apparently clued him in as to which is the "working end" of the shovel.

Co-President Michelle Obama's school lunch program. Nutritious, delicious, and oh-so-filling.

I would almost suspect these photos at Pundit Press are faked, you know, some items removed to make it look even worse than it is. A banana and what looks like a scoop of salsa, or something? But, reality keeps surpassing parody.

In 1979, Milady and I were not that big on Reagan. While I never thought of myself as a liberal, there was such a tremendous, powerful liberal filter shaping our news and perceptions pre-Internet. And shortly after he took office, we started being busy being a family. In Chicago, where the filters are everywhere. His administration wasn't perfect, and of course the flaws were magnified and the good hidden. But just like George W, the man's character was excellent and oh the voice!

I probably didn't really start to take notice until the "tear down this wall" speech. And didn't fully appreciate what he'd done until the wall actually came down. And, of course, increasingly ever since.

His spirit lives on.

Surprise again! I'm with Shapiro on this.

At the "office," we have had cable for decades. Service has "improved" in our neighborhood, and the cable company makes frantic efforts to get us to "upgrade" to a faster speed which would be really great.

However, what they don't say is, with the "upgrade," we have a data cap and pay extra above that. With our old, grandfathered throttled-speed connection, though, one flat fee, unlimited data. I figure they hate us, but it's our choice.

"Seventy years ago, Nazi soldiers descended on my tiny village in the Carpathian Mountains, rounded up me and my family and packed us into cattle cars headed for Auschwitz.

My mother, grandparents, sister and 5-year-old baby brother were sent to the ovens. I was 15 years old.

Today, I own America’s premier hand-tailored menswear company and make suits for everyone from President Obama to Jimmy Fallon to James Spader’s character Raymond “Red” Reddington on NBC’s “The Blacklist.”

Everything I am or will ever be I owe to God and the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines of the US Armed Forces who fought and died to liberate me.
