I'm often reminded of my "health food restaurant" experience in Albuquerque in the mid-70s. Place was run by that turban-wearing order. Everything I ordered, even the 'carrot juice,' was the same shade of brown. Brown bean brown. Mmm, appetizing! Presentation, apparently, was not in their skill set.
Son baked two turkeys. Daughter baked three kinds of pie. Cranberries dish was a group effort. Potatoes, mashed and sweet, but... no green bean casserole. Far-off son called and had a long talk with his brother like old times. Fine food & immediate family. Nice.
I'm thankful I didn't have to go anywhere or do anything much, yet got to enjoy the feast.

Seconding the sentiment of those who are thankful for this little community of comments in little gray boxes. Just to know, not everybody in the world has forgotten what truly matters, is great support for marching on.
Our holiday is kind of inside out this year. No major feast, no big family gathering. Visiting and noshing instead. For example, had a slice each of Daughter's pecan pie and apple pie last night. Both excellent.
Local riot report: On the drive home last night, there appeared to be three deceased protesters in the road. The two-day-old bloated raccoon carcass seems to have migrated from the center line to just off the west side of the road. The day-old possum carcass in the middle of our lane, fortunately, was not bloated, so we could clear it. The squirrel was new, still fresh, had that "I'm just sleeping" look. These riots are vicious. It's just blood and gore and death out there I tell you. Paws up, don't goosh! or something.

You know that video where some libs get to shoot guns for the first time? A while back, I was watching that with my daughter, and I remarked how amazing it was that they got a Pajama Boy look-a-like for that video. Daughter replies, no, that's a pretty standard type for that age/generation.
I've rarely felt so hopeless for our future.
