Ho Ho Ho! Good morning, Polinationalists.
I don't think I found this here, so…
"A 54-year-old mum considered suicide and takes anti-depressants two months before Christmas every year because she still is unable to accept that Santa isn’t real." (The Telegraph, c/o I Own the World) Check out the picture!
Maybe she needs to re-think what "real" means.
From the ancient days of 1988, a little thing I did you might find amusing:
Santa, Dear Friends
Did that seem like an especially long night to you?
Morning, Glories! Cool and foggy morning in NE OK. Supposed to be in the 50s today. I'll take it!

Pete: "Did anybody else notice neither of the slain officers were 'whiteys?'"
Yeah, that's what I meant about, how American, how New York.
And yes, it's all about the uniform. As the folks screaming at black cops in the past couple of weeks have shown.
Pundit Press reports a copycat attempt, but the gun jammed. Perp caught, no harm. Unfortunately, the link Pundit Press provides goes to an article about the murders, not the copycat.
Searching the Daily News, I found an article about a teen pointing a gun at cops, perp caught, no harm, but the trigger was not pulled, nothing about a gun jamming.
Speaking of cop hate back in the day, I don’t recall ever encountering this before: from 1970, “This piece was very personal to [Paul] Harvey, as his own police officer father was killed in the line of duty.” “The Policeman” (Pundit Press)
Pete: "…piece of gutteral filth."
#1, gutterural has two u's. (Yes, I had to look it up.)
#2, although this incident may cause us to make guttural noises, I'm pretty sure you meant gutter filth.
(It's my English teachers' voices haunting my head that make me write this.)

Milady and I both had the same reaction when the identities and pix of the two policemen came out. Liu and Ramos: How… American! How… New York! God bless their families, friends, and fellow officers.
I well remember this cop-hating crap from back in the 60s, kin to the spit-on-soldiers mentality. I hope this gets knocked down fast, but it's not going to go away easily with those in high places fanning the flames.

Also, and otherwise, a merry solstice to all.

The lightning was calling from inside the car!

Yes, you can still get the port 1080 version by some routes.
Just found out this week that in the AoS XML feed, the links are the old (not acecomments) address, and they get redirected to 1080. May be some other routes.
Technologically speaking, good evening, and, Merry Christmas to y'all.

So complicated! A spherical not ovoid planet following a round not elliptical orbit was one of the French Revolution's loftier goals, as part of metric calendar reform.
(See? This ^ is why I just lurk. Or sleep.)
Syriasly, thanks for the details on sunrise/sunset variance.

Now! The solstice at last! Sure, the worst of winter is still ahead. No, the dawn doesn't come dramatically sooner, nor the sunset noticeably later, at first.

Actually, the sunrise keeps getting later for about two weeks after the solstice.
The earliest sunset was about two weeks before the solstice, and it has gradually been getting later since then. But the sunrise has been getting later faster than the sunset is getting later, so the overall length of daylight has been decreasing.
After the solstice, the process reverses. Now the sunset is getting later faster than the sunrise is getting later, so the overall length of daylight begins increasing.
This is the case for 40º N, at least. The specifics may be different for other latitudes. I believe it has something to do with Earth's elliptical orbit.
Now! The solstice at last! Sure, the worst of winter is still ahead. No, the dawn doesn't come dramatically sooner, nor the sunset noticeably later, at first. But, just knowing that the cycle has reversed, that the sun is moving north again, is warming, invigorating.

Lovely thoughts.
Lurk lurk lurk
So many half-thought-out replies come to mind, and incipient wanna-be jokes and quips; but they don't coalesce into comments, so I lurk.
A symptom of this my season of... lassitude.
Days lately have been overcast. Just chilly enough to be discouraging. Gray, featureless sky, morning to night, day after day. And the daylight itself, so brief! I am miss the sun.

Burst of solstice-inspired energy expired, I back to lurkness shamble.
Man, that news was extra infuriating today, Vic.
Where, how, when can the criminals who have taken over be stopped? Madness!

This is "abbreviated"? Pretty hearty, I think.

Tried to go to the link, but Free Beacon has same display problems as DC, on my machine.
But I can read about

Daily Caller links need trigger warnings. Intolerable overhead.
The first few hundred comments are the heaviest.
Thanks for the news links, Vic.
Other than that, I just got my usual nothing. But it's fresh nothing.

That million mummies news is intriguing. What a great find! Hope the Islamonazis don't locate it.
Says the dead were grouped by hair color, blonds v redheads. Funny. I don't usually think blonds and redheads when I think "Egyptian."
