On Times Editing Out Islam

NY Times makes a few tiny, insignificant "corrections" to article. (Boldface is added in 2nd version, struck-out was deleted in 2nd version) (Hope this works)

Sigolène Vinson, a freelancer freelance journalist who had decided to come came in that morning to take part in the meeting, said that when the shooting started, she thought she would be killed when one of the men approached her.

Instead, she told French news media, the man said, “I’m not going to kill you because you’re a woman, we don’t kill women, but you must convert to Islam, read the Quran and cover yourself,” she recalled.

Ms. Vinson said in an interview that she dropped to the floor and crawled down the hall to hide behind a partition, but one of the gunmen spotted her and grabbed her by the arm, pointing his gun at her head. Instead of pulling the trigger, though, he told her she would not be killed because she was a woman.

“Don’t be afraid, calm down, I won’t kill you,” the gunman told her in a steady voice, with a calm look in his eyes, she recalled. “You are a woman. But think about what you’re doing. It’s not right.”

See? Hardly changes the meaning at all!

I like books. bit I'm currently trying to learn to read books all over again. Seriously, it's been a while.

For Christmas, Daughter gave me the Autobio of Mark Twain v1, a big fat scholarly version that's hard to balance on my lap in the comfy chair. If I fall asleep while reading, it's liable to slump over and injure me. Print is dangerous!

I've still not built up my concentration to the point where I can read much at a time, but Twain's great wit and facility at just the art of writing is a big help. His description of the house he rents in Italy goes on for pages, in ripe, often hilarious detail.

My learn-to-read-again therapy program is moving slowly, but successfully. Mark Twain's Autobio book 1, big fat study version that daughter gave me for Christmas has been helpful. That man can write about a chair and make it entertaining. Writing for the joy of.

However, the volume is so huge and heavy, if I fall asleep reading, it could shift and injure me. I forgot how dangerous actual physical books can be.

I was going to quote a bit, but I'm too lazy afraid I wouldn't do a passage justice. Maybe later.

I cannot get the picture to load more than a tiny top strip, like we used to get in the 300-baud days. Not on here, in a tab by itself, nor on the page it clicks to.

Am I missing anything vital?

Morning, Glories. At least it's struggling to be morning, here in the middle of America. And I'm struggling to be awake for it.

I have to apologize to Asus. The new tablet I got for Christmas and thought had bricked on day 2 is working fine and I'm using it right now. Not sure what the problem was, but I suspect it was the Operator.

Now to read what y'all been sayin' so far today.

As a little kid, I always thought it was the funniest thing that Adam and Eve tried to hide from God Who Sees and Knows Everything.

I often recall the rhetorical question, "Who told you that you are naked?"

I heard that question from my parents from time-to-time. Not about nakedness, of course, but usually about something that was broken, or scarred, or missing cookies.

It's all the same. They (and God) knew more about me then I knew/know myself.

Eve blaming the serpent, and Adam blaming Eve ("She told me to do it!") was the onset of rationalization to justify/excuse almost anything.

FenelonSpoke, last thread: "Francois Fenelon on 'How To Pray': http://tinyurl.com/ntyehf3"

Fen, you still around? That was a short, sweet version of "don't try to hide from God."

Being fully open and honest in prayer intrinsically means being open and honest with oneself, shining a light on any conflicts of purpose, which is healthy just by itself.

As a little kid, I always thought it was the funniest thing that Adam and Eve tried to hide from God Who Sees and Knows Everything.

The glare of the just-risen sun off of the frost on the lawn makes it look like it's covered with snow.

Glad it's not.

Double post when I didn't even mean to hit Post. The weekend is off to a great start.

Eight degrees. I have cats that prefer the great outdoors to the litter box, even on arctic mornings. But the cats have the option. Pity the poor dog who has no choice.

Spectacular, indeed.

Enjoyed seeing the evolution of your artwork. That crossover saga was especially impressive.

Now, howzabout another thousand?

"I got a snap and a crackle, but there was no pop."

It's a Man's Job to open the new milk jug!

You sure it was the lack of milk? Might've just been old Rice Krispies. I hear the Pop is the first to go. :D

Great post, Pete.

On Sundays, Mom took us to the Episcopal Church. All my life until I left for college, pretty much every Sunday. It wasn't my favorite activity as a little kid, but as a teen, I came to appreciate the ceremony. Fr. Rogers was especially helpful to my spiritual growth early-on. I wasn't raised very educated in Bible or theology or doctrine, but I had a grounding of appreciation for Jesus that kept me coming back.

And that origin of the church, yeah, we just don't talk much about the beheading king guy — long ago, unfortunate start. :D

When I first went to Chicago to meet Milady's family, her cousin Tom the Monk asked me about my church upbringing. "Episcopal?" he said, with that big smile of his, "You guys are more High Church than we are these days!" Which, at the time, was true.

Being Episcopal was kind of like being neutral in the doctrinal wars; theologically, no one quite knew what they'd argue against.

I don't go to the Episcopal Church, for many years now. I've watched the changes. I don't much proudly proclaim my Episcopal upbringing anymore. Women pastors seemed to me a natural evolution. Why that opens the door to every deviant permission is beyond me. But so it has gone. There is a "conservative" branch in Tulsa that split off from the main church, built by some of the Moneyed, but many stay in their local congregation, despite objections to changes.

Let's see now, what was that Gospel, and what were we supposed to do with it? I dunno. We'll talk about that after the big chili feast for abortion!

St. James Episcopal Church will celebrate 42 years of abortion with Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid Missouri on January 22, 2015 for their Chili for Choice.

Good afternoon from the wilds of Oklahoma, where we're experiencing a heatwave. It was 8°F at 7am, and we're up to 34. Swimmin' weather!

I was just looking at my newsfeeds, and the list of the latest headlines from Pundit Press struck me as a kind-of glimpse at the state of the world:

• International Business Times: Jews, Israel Behind Paris Shooting
• Labor Secretary Thomas Perez: The Bible demands we increase minimum wage
• Obama administration plans to redouble efforts explaining the “true tenets of Islam”

The crazy, it is so deeply and widely spread!

"What's in a name...?"

"Federalist Party" alas evokes federalism, big gov. Sort of how "Libertarian" evokes liberalism, right or wrong.

No, not "Constitution" nor "Freedom" nor any other misleading term.

Let's face it. There's only one party name that truly represents: Republican. "If you can keep it."

If the rest of you would just vote for true reliable conservative Republicans like we do here in my district, the name wouldn't be so tarnished! Elect the right guy in the first place, save energy.

Also, invest in a company where the stock price will go up: if it don't go up, don't buy it.
