For lack of a slash, a close-italics was lost.

For lack of a close-italics, all emphasis changed.

For change of emphasis, the war was lost…

cth: "I’ve got a bad, Bad, BAD cold…."

So, that's where I caught it. I was suspecting the hospital where I was visiting my cousin, or that my daughter had dragged it in from Texas where she attended a friend's wedding. But, no, I'm blaming PoliNation.

Started out last night as a scratchy, what I would call "smoker's" throat. Doctor Milady gave me a homeopathic which seemed to relieve the scratchy throat, and by this morning symptoms had changed to heavy head (sinuses), but that seems to be improving. Sure was hard to get a good night's sleep, though; sleep is just about always the very best natural remedy, of course.

A cold. How… ordinary. Kind-of refreshing after all I've been through. Well, not really. Still sux.

Well, that excitement was short-lived. Guess I'll read the post.

"US Senate: Yes, climate change is real. The move can be seen as a critical step forward for US lawmakers"

Seriously? The Senate acknowledges that climate changes. Wow. Up next: House resolves that water is wet; Joint House-Senate resolution declares sun rises "approximately" in the East.

I want to salute the local police for their latest brilliant crime-solving work.

At the new big-chain pharmacy, a fellow "implied" he had a gun and walked out with all the money in the cash register - pharmacy part not involved, nobody hurt. Police got his picture from the surveillance cameras, and found him at the, erm, low-price motel a quarter-mile away.

I likewise salute the crook on his brilliant heist and getaway plans that only our local Sherlocks could have thwarted. [Link, with smugshot]

The count: Seventy-Five Times!

With his 75 references to “I,” “me” and “my,” it was as if Obama delivered a third inaugural address on Jan. 20, 2015, rather than the now-ritualized and constitutionally required report to Congress about how things are going.

To be fair, I only made it 35 seconds into the reply. "I'd like to talk about your priorities." Neerrrggghh…

I watched 26 seconds of this video. That's as much of the STFU as I've seen. Uh, I mean the SOTU.

Here's a long random personal news comment in a attempt to bring up BenK thread in that magical willowy way.

So, day before yesterday, the dentist (finally) re-filled my lost filling. Hooray for modern painless dentistry! I'm a time-traveler from the 1950s where, not only was it was more primitive, but the family dentist's idea of "painless" was "Buck up, kid. You can take it."

Still don't like the drilling part. Painless it may be, but there's the screech of the drilling and the smell of burnt bone which evokes my childhood trauma and anyway yuck, right? But this time was the easiest drilling ever since he just had to clean up the existing hole. So there's that. TMI?

The tooth is a wisdom tooth, and, apparently, he really doesn't want to build me a crown 'way back up there. Can't blame him. I'll get by, I guess.... I'm fond of my teeth. Had them most of my life.

* Also *

My cousin in the hospital woke up enough to pull the feeding tube out of her nose and fight off the nurses trying to re-insert it. And she only has use of one arm. Good to know she has her fire. Thanks for prayers & thoughts for her continuing recovery. She's improving a little.

* Also *

The furnace guy came out yesterday, assessed that it was indeed the vent fan that was shot, and said he could be back out here in the afternoon today to replace it. So, looks like we won't have mid-Winter heat interruption. Meanwhile, the vent fan sounds like a truck engine.

Did it work?

Demonstration of the difference between relative and ideal:

Q

GW Bush: Miss me yet?

A

Ideally: Not really.

Relatively: Oh, yes indeedy, so very much!

I have a dream that one day we will judge our Presidents on the basis of their character and not on the color of their skin.

Morning, Glories!

I've read up through #178 and ready to refresh the page, so, thought I'd wave hello first.

What is the deal? Sometimes we get a morning thread. Sometimes we get Vic news. Occasionally we get both!

Now, you all talk some more - except McScribbler who is a person exclusively of action - while I feed the pets.

Sound track for cruising the STFU speech comments has been Jefferson Airplane, After Bathing at Baxters and select cuts from Surrealistic Pillow. Thanks for reporting on the SCoaMF's performance, folks.

Lately, I see SOTU but I think STFU & STFD.

My appreciation in advance to all those who will watch, filter, & report upon the Stuttering Clusterfluke of a Miserable Failure's STFU speech.
