PoliNation lives! Thanks, Pete, for all the goodies. I've got about a dozen things piled up over the weekend. Wanna see?

#1

Deeply conservative Oklahoma adjusts to sudden arrival of same-sex marriage

The “polite gays,” was how Tracy and Kathryn described themselves. Not political or loud, not obvious or overt, but understated, in keeping with their Oklahoma surroundings. Never asking anyone to think too hard or talk too much about the fact that they were gay at all. Except now they were about to ask everyone they knew to think about it, because they’d decided to have a wedding.

According to the Washington Post, for whom Oklahoma must be the very epitome of deepest, darkest flyover country.

My own assessment? Oklahoma is deeply conservative, and deeply conservative folks are happy to mind their own business. "Gay marriage" forced upon us? Most folks shrug at modern craziness. You can call it marriage if you want to; nobody is opposed to folks having decent partner privileges tantamount thereto, and don't care about your bedroom practices, but it's not ever going to be considered Marriage in most folks' dictionaries.

Noting that yesterday was the anniversary of one of America's most horrifying cringeworthy moments, BJ Clinton looking the nation in the eye and denying that he ever had sexual relations on that blue dress.

[A video webwork from last July contrasting Bill vs Barry includes that lying scumbag moment.]

There is no way Sarah Palin would get the GOP nom.

However.

Not only would Palin crush Hilldabeast in the election, our smoldering civil war might go hot because of it.

Sounds okay to me. Never did like the days of "people will endure while evils are endurable" stage.

I want to thank the light bulb fearmongers. Because of them, I have changed many smaller bulbs to high-wattage floodlights, and I've had these "heat lamps" cooking much of the winter - turn 'em all on first thing.

Newcandescent - I think is the name of an American "incandescent heat lamps" manufacturer. Tom Edison lives!

Morning, Glories! Nice to have your news & commentary again, Vic.

Not much PoliNating since Friday. Hoping all PoliNation principals are bearing up under sniffles, snowfalls, and what-alls. I'd mention we'll have a high in the 70s tomorrow, but that might be unwelcome so I won't.

Rich mummies got swathed in finery. Poor folk got wrapped in whatever recycles were lying around.

Fortunately, that included pieces of parchment.

“We’re recovering ancient documents from the first, second and third centuries,” Craig Evans, a professor of New Testament studies at Acadia Divinity College in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, told Live Science.

Evans is part of a large team of researchers working on the project, which is based in Oklahoma City. "The scholars involved are from all over the world," he told FoxNews.com.

These scraps of parchment include fragments of what they think is the oldest known copy of Mark; I doubt there will be a whole lot of revision of theology (heh), since "oldest" only pushes it back about ten years, to 90AD, but as an armchair scriptural archaeologist I am always excited by such discoveries. Hope when they publish their findings I run across the info.

How we got like this
#1 in a series on our intelligent design

Scene: Earth-life designer studios, six billion years ago:

Designer A: You know, that facial hair looks pretty good on men. We should add a little bit more, right above the mouth, though, don't you think? Round it out?

Designer B: Yeah, that looks good. Done.

Designer C: Wait! Isn't that right under where we put the excess mucus exit ports?

Designers A & B: [giggling] Yeah. Your point?

As a general rule, perversity aside, I don't care what these video people do. Are we not all delighted by the explosion of videos created by the ubiquity of the cell cam? We have to take the "Worst Fail" along with the "People are Amazing" — because that's how people are.

Bathtub full of Fruit Loops? That's hilarious, at least in concept, harking back to the exotic "milk baths" of Hollyweird starlets. Cinnamon challenge was a thing awhile back. First, and last, time I saw anyone try it was Jenna Marbles; always glad to watch others being stupid, since vicarious wisdom gleaned beats direct experience, but I can't help thinking, these people never cooked at all, because if you ever caught a stray whiff of cinnamon, you'd know. Want a real challenge? Try cayenne powder.

Didn't watch either of these videos, by the way. Nor the ones with the Traitor in Chief. Being delighted by the explosion of videos doesn't require me to watch them. :D

Belated Morning, Glories. I just m/l got caught up.

Nothing to add, except, thanks for the post and comments, all. Not that it improves the candidates, but it helps with thinking about them.

President PartialBirth released a statement today.

"…may we all rededicate ourselves to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons."

In the context of reproduction, where nature is absolutely discriminating between male and female (male and female created he them), what could a sentence like the above even mean? I know, I know, just more wild, empty rhetoric from the master of wild emptiness, but think about it. Turn it around. Men need the same rights as women? Monthly "problems." Getting pregnant. Nursing. Don't all men want that?

How long, O Lord, must we endure this vile dictator?
