Book thread! Book thread!

Alas, no time to read post or comments @now.

Sometimes it takes me all week. Slow reader.

For Easter, though, here's a book, one I usually keep in my at-hand collection, but can't seem to locate @now.

This Fellow Jesus, by Louis Cassels, 1973. Cassels was AP religion reporter. He especially appreciates the "reporter," Luke. Here's a good summation from a review on Amazon:

As an introduction to Jesus, it very quickly enumerates the facts and figures concerning the astounding impact this one man's life has had -- and continues to have -- on the world.

Rainy Easter morning here in NE OK, but it's a light Spring rain which should pass in time for our lunch on Mom's porch.

Hope you find all your decorated eggs.

Bye.

I know this is late for Passover, but I wanted to note that Bluebird of Bitterness has had some nice posts for Passover and Easter week. Check out Six13 - Seder Crew video from last Monday.

Easter Greetings, folks. Getting ready to make the drive to The City for Easter supper with Mom, our daughter, our sons, and a nephew. And Jesus.

He is risen!

[Forgive self-plugola on Easter Sunday, however timely? Nic links to "Jerusalem Report," a slightly steampunk (or something) comic from a few years back, looking at events of Easter week via tv news and social media. Not strictly scriptural, but reverently intended.]

I was about to leave a comment in the last thread saying, "here I am! Must be time for the thread to die." But before I could get to it, the thread died. I don't have those Willow skills I guess.

Gooood morning, world of Morons! Jesus loves you!

Paying taxes (or at least filing) is mandatory. Voting is not. Require taxes be paid, or at least filed, at the polling place on election day. This will not only encourage folks to better realize taxes and votes are related, it might get a few folks out to vote who otherwise wouldn't. What could go wrong?

OH, no, wait! I know. You get one vote for every dollar you pay in taxes. What could go wrong?

No, no, I've got it... never mind... I lost it...

Suddenly, I'm asleep at the switch.

Whatever I might've said or done whilst somnambulistic, I didn't mean it, probably.

Goooooood night, Gaggle of Morons

spoiler:
He rises on Sunday

A powerful ongoing story that has great characters, appeals to our interests, and has a happy ending...

Too good to be true, some suspect.

I just realized: Uncle Palp is Stuck on Stupid under a different nic!!!

Hello again, strange world of text people.

gNewt #305: Trump should post his weekly address somewhere other than Facebook.

It's also on YouTube.

Uncle Palpatine!

I haven't been reading every comment of late, but I hadn't seen you around for a few days.

Glad to read you have happy to report.

Read a bunch comments, then got distracted by Other Real Life Stuff (I know, I need to focus). Then read more comments.

Crusader #89: ...I live in Oklahoma...

Whereabouts? I'm in an underground bunker up N of Tulsa.

Teej - as I see you've been talking about creeper becoming your groupie I've been meaning to ask you where you is, or where you're playing, at least.

Haven't read comments. Did we find out who Blogger X is? So many quotes, I'm guessing that guy that used to do the ONTs, Matt Hemlock or something.

That kid who didn't wear a helmet? In a few years, as a rocker, he tried to jump from the stage for crowd surfing, but no one caught him and he would have probably died from the concussion, but... yes, he was wearing a helmet.

Goooood evening Friday, technicolor people in little gray boxes!

Howdy, Hordey.

Running real late today, so, surprised to see we're only up to the Ahrt Threade.

Anyway, gotta go back and read the headlines now.

Better to be so far behind the commentariat that you can't comment than to leave a comment and prove you're a moron.

Hm. That sounded snappier in my head.

WeirdDave, since you seem to still be here...

Nice ONT. Actually went through it with Milady tonight. Imagine! ONT as couples entertainment! But, really.

"...brought to you by helping hands" cracked us up.

thathalfrican: ...but what if simple questions and facts aren't addressed and answered? Then what?

See my #511 about playing to the onlookers.

This thread seems to be warming up just as I'm cooling down. Much as I would like to continue participating, I'm about participated out.

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Happy happies, Hordelings. See you ... tomorrow?

Emmie #494: Thathalfrican, I suspect you may never change the mind of the person you are debating, but if you have an audience, there may be someone in it who will realize you made a good point and perhaps see the light.

I first learned this from experience debating folks on forums on CompuServe, practically pre-Web. I wouldn't make any headway with my debate "opponent," but I would get all kinds of emails from folks, too wary of the heat to get in the kitchen themselves, understandably, but appreciative of whatever point I was making.

It's not about persuading the Other Side, but the un-de-sided.

Emmie: I learn so much here at AoS but can't find the info again when I need it.

I hear ya. I have often thought there ought to be a "best of AoSHQ" blog where prime points, references, and other good thinking would be in a solid, searchable database. But, then, who would decide what is "best." Some dude would upvote all the kbdabear compliance pix....

thathalfrican: We've decided to take the gloves off when necessary...

While I may not engage with the relations (out of respect to the hosts of family gatherings), our daughter (30ish, cute, available) has made great inroads in the minds of her cousins and contemporaries by simply sticking to the technique of asking questions and presenting simplified but representative facts and logic.

It's like Reagan said, it's not that they don't know anything - it's that so much of what they do know is wrong. And if you can find the lever to flip them on one thing...

Um... before I fade away for the night....which will be soon...

If you click my nic, it takes you to the table of contents of Jerusalem Report, from 2013 - a sort-of steampunk cartoon look at Easter week, if there had been Liberal Media, cell phones, and social networks 2000 years ago.

Note: Loose on the scriptural adherence, although - I hope - reverently respectful nonetheless (but, those with a combination of Biblical Inerrancy Doctrine Indignation and no leeway-granting sense of humor maybe ought not click).

Sorry for the self-plugola, but, it's that time of year, so when else would I mention it?

Sjg #469: The Norks' nuclear capabilities are rather suspect. Last I knew there was still quite a bit of debate whether many of their underground tests were actual nukes or just massive conventional explosives massed together.

IIRC, Saddam had folks talking up their WMD programs to him, when the reality was they didn't work, or worked poorly - you know, telling the big guy what he wants to hear so your head remains attached to your body.

I wonder if Li'l Kim is being played by his underlings like that. Which is why the missiles keep going blooey and off-course.

Not to trivialize the threat of that lunatic.

This is why, at family gatherings, I not only don't drink, I leave before others get too far into their cups. It's not easy. Derangement Syndrome has certainly been cranked to eleventies.
