Civil intercourse requires gracious attitudes.

Were you ever earwitness to a conversation, and you could tell how, at some point, one person misunderstood another, and responded badly, and misunderstandings compounded and tempers escalated, and you could see it coming a mile away because you saw where they started talking past each other?

Not that you could intervene at any point - m'daddy allus tole me, don't jump into the middle of a dogfight.

Wow, chrissy, wow. (The usual wows on your work.)

Y'know, my main reason for writing was to pass along the Jewish calendar link, which I figured you would appreciate (better than I). The false pope link was sort-of a humorous afterthought, so I was stunned? amused? whelmed? by your multi-megaton takedown (which I read much more thoroughly than I skimmed the original).

I also thought the website name was amusing, "Rapture Ready." Is saying you're rapture ready like bragging you're humble? Or I suppose it could be taken, not as ready-now, but as getting-ready - a spiritual prepper site?

Me, I'm just trying to get through the day without making things too much worse.

:D

Alex: But since there aren't actually that many weird mayo stories, to be honest, I was pretty comfortable with using the superlative in this case.

Not my balliwix, but I pass along a cupola linx for your perusal, chrissy.

It’s no accident that the deal was finalized only last week.

The former was more interesting to me than the latter, but as I say, this prophecy stuff is not my baliwick. I tried it once in my youth, but got distracted by girls. :D

Hard to believe the words of Amazing Grace could have even more potentcy, but knowing the author's background does just that. Thanks, BB. (Blogged.)

Noah with the three dogs was so sad.

Yes, our family likes dogs, our current fellow being a true family member.

Theologicallically: I found problems with aspects of the Noah story even as a child, and as an adult have no "absolutist" ideas about the details of the Bible's more dubious legends, if you'll excuse the term legends. Um, and the term dubious.

I don't think historic accuracy is required. I try not to overthink it. Noah would have had to have loaded lots more than two Mayflies, among other biological conundra. But, I've always loved God's promise in the rainbow.

But leaving behind a dog? When you have a whole ship full of animals to shepherd? No way -- Orders or no orders, if Noah was smart, he took extra dogs! And extra cats, because those two mice were lots more than two after 40 days!

Fleas! Why couldn't he leave the fleas!?!?! and Ticks!

Appreciate your work, even when it's... I'll just say, disturbing-thought-provoking.

KDP in Madill, OK: Spirographs were cool. Always seemed like they should be able to do something *more,* but for what they did, they were cool, on summer days when it was too rainy to play outside.

Something I've always wondered about: You folks who do the "Five Weirdest" or whatever number of whatever, how do you know they're the weirdest? What if there's one even weirder that you missed? Do you revise the list? Create a new click-bait list of the Six Weirdest?

Okay, I really wasn't wondering that much.

The mayo stories were... um... let me just say, hold the mayo!

The rancid tub reminded me of this recent Arlo & Janis cartoon re the smells of summer.

I just want to know, the folks in the house where the rancid tub was, were they still alive? conscious? devoid of olfactory senses?

PP: I feel kinda stupid posting a bunch of links…

Aw, having a down day, Pete? Look at your work from my perspective. I note your first "stupid link" is the monument to the unborn child. Heart-wrenching and worth the price of admission alone. You don't do what chrissy does? Who can? That's why we ♥ chrissy! Also what you do.

"How many links are enough? how many are too many? I have no idea."

Just for myself, I have yet to see a Pete's Post that had too many. Just cut&paste 'til your fingers give out, that should be about right.

Which, if unclear, is my oblique way of saying thanks for today's post. And all of them.

Didja ever try to find a paragraph or two that you remember reading online, without a clue who wrote it or where you read it? This is why I bookmark too many things in my blog-heap pages, but the one I'm trying to find will so often be one I forgot to bookmark. I was about to give up trying to locate it, when I checked by browser history and saw Hope n' Change and I thought, yeah, that was something Stilton might write. And it was.

…We were aghast at his original decision not to lower flags while offering up rationalizations like "that's only for senior statesmen" or "we don't want to have to decide whether or not to do it every time a service member is killed." But since this dithering represented about the standard degree of assholery from this administration, we were willing to accept it and move on.

But now Obama has ordered the flags to be lowered. Not because it was the right and moral thing to do, but because too many angry members of the public called him out on it. In a rare instance of genuine transparency, it was clear that Obama simply wanted to bury the story as quickly as possible, along with any troubling questions about Islamic radicalism in our nation. …

Quick search found American-made incandescent bulbs available online. I think there are others. For those of us resisting tyranny.

Proper method for cleaning up after toxic curly-bulbs? Do not buy in the first place.

When they first came out, we bought two. Noticed right away they didn't work with my dimmers (every room light) and the color value was pale and ugly.

Relegated one to a closet, where it's rarely used, but I wish it would die.

The other went in a desk lamp where in a remarkably short time a couple of cats chasing each other through the living room knocked that lamp over and we called in the hazmat team vacuumed thoroughly and vowed never to buy those wacky progressive bulbs again.

Milady adds: proper procedure is, you're never supposed to vacuum.

Thanks for the chart, Chrissy. I don't mind alternatives, of course; I detest the Commies forcing the markets.

Secretary of State John Kerry and other top administration officials will face tough questions on the Iran deal at a Senate hearing...

Tough. Sure.

Senator: Mister Secretary, have you fully recovered from your bicycling accident?

Senator: Mister Secretary, can I have a ride on your yacht?

Senator: Mister Secretary, how many fingers am I holding up...?

Morning, Glories. Y'all sure gotsa lotsa fascinatin' stuff to say, and I read every word. Okay, many of the words. Okay, I looked at the pitchers....

An old shoulder injury flared back up yesterday. Could not find a comfortable position for sleep all night. Hurts to raise my arm up to type. So, since I'm limited, y'all rail on for me, hokay? You've been doing great so far.

OW!

artisanal 'ette: It's amazing how, after suffering, how much you love life.

Looking forward to that.
