Chicago: 6 shot and 74 heroin ODs in less than 72 hours.

Maaan! I miss all the good times. There I was, yesterday in Greek Town, just sitting there feasting on the world's best food and guzzling Roditys when I could've been out shooting up or getting shot.

What city was it that was taxing the rain?

Y'all getting flooded can be glad, at least, you don't live there. Unless you do.

Last full day in the environs of the disaster on Lake Michigan.

Surviving the traffic and crowds and crazies is easy.

Surviving the politics of my in-laws... feels kinda like dodge-ball.

Modern Man would be aghast at the comments on AoSHQ.

Morning, Glories! I'm in... sorta.

Modern Man...

always makes sure to squeeze and roll up the toothpaste tube from the bottom.

That's the extent of my wisdom after a busy day.

Probably more appropriate for the ONT, but SFW.

Those are great. Really liked fail/win/fail. But I can compete with the "luckiest car owner."

We had a 100+yo oak with two mighty forks that died last Spring. One fork fell and branches hit in front of and behind my truck, with just the tiniest little ding on the door. Also branches just inches away from a large window on the house. Lucky all around.

Not long after, the other fork broke and fell... again with branches in front of and behind my truck. A much more serious dent on the back door of the truck, but still enormously lucky. Came 'way too close to "goose" above.

In before the next thread, just to say,

Morning, Glories!

Cold and rain no doubt affected the overnight numbers here in Chicago.

I'm up on the North Side, not down in the war zone. Well, actually out west in the suburbs at the moment, but most of our time has been spent on the N Side, our old stomping grounds.

You know, there's lots of good around here. Ethnic diversity without conflict. Families. Hard working people. I try to focus on the good, like folks who let me into traffic rather than the jerks who cut me off. Seeing the good is a survival technique, if nothing else.

Going to my BiL's interment/memorial today. Basically, what we came for.

Life goes on. Until it doesn't. Value every moment.

Have a day. Have two, they're small.

Why do I think I can just quit this place?

Took in crazy-ass young female relative once (big mistake). Among other horror stories...

One evening at the back door I find her with a full grown raccoon... INside the house... sitting up on its haunches a foot from her.

"Isn't it cute!"

Idiot girl. Also, lucky. Coon ran out when I showed up and yelled.

I'll re-tell my possum story some other night.

gnite fer realz now

Lauren: He told the shooter it was his 6 year old son's birthday, and the monster laughed and shot him twice more.

Let's be grateful for the lack of "gun control" ... on the shooter's part. (By which I mean "aim.")

Seven times not just five!

As I said last thread, utterly disqualified as a Modern Man.

Love the concern for others. Outstanding.

Pic on WZ of him in hospital bed - if he was grinning any harder (AFTER being shot seven times!!) his face would split.

It wasn't really that the coffeemaker was complicated. It's that it had old coffee grounds in the filter and yesterday's coffee still in the pot and I was busy reading the blog.

Milady, having finished her morning ablutions, has come to my rescue. I'm caffeinated at last. Just in time, I presume, for the "normal" posts and the end of my morning with y'all.

The Republican Party of Oklahoma has offered a home to a Ten Commandments monument soon to be removed from Capitol grounds by court order, saying the teachings etched in stone are espoused by the party, officials said on Thursday. ... "It really defines us as a nation," said [interim GOP-OK chairwoman] Estela Hernandez "We really are a moral nation and, when we look at those laws that are enshrined in that monument, that's what we follow today."

Well, I think even the GOP of OK is too RINO, but at least they are doing this.

Is this thread moving really fast or am I reading really slow? (Still staring, dumbfounded, at strange coffeemaker)

Tickled Pink: I mean, as much as I feel gun control is a waste of time...there has to be a way to keep it from being as easy of buying a pack of gum, right?

I liked what someone said on here many moons back about some NWestern state (Montana) gun law. Are you incarcerated? No? [Cash register sound]

Hippie dippie coworker: Tell her gramma in Salem should take firearms training and start packing.

That's my 2¢ contribution. Did I manage to be the Willow?

What I miss most, being on the road, is my dog. Next-most, this time of day, miss my own coffee! (Staring at strange coffeemaker in a friend's kitchen. Chock Full o'Nuts is supposed to be good stuff, though, right?)

Morning, Glories, from a suburb of Chicago.

Now to see if Vic did his thing...

Amazing willowing. This post must've gone up the moment I started commenting on the last one.
