On Ace of Spades

Okay, friends, piping-hot fresh from the Mindful Webworkshop, a short but sour little Christmas ditty I wrote in 1991 and finally got around to recording today.

The Terrible Christmas Song (40sec video)
http://bit.ly/terrible-christmas-song

And with that, I wish you all a Merry Christmas Eve as I fold myself up and insert myself in bed.

Good night, Gracies!

Paused partway through reading the post to see how much more there was, and... wow. I thought "overnight" referred to the comments, but the post is going to take me that long.

Nice one, so far, Maet. Thanks.

"...the mailed fist can be directly revealed...."

I'm thinking their obviousness will become self-defeating, but I'm a hopeless optimist... on alternate Wednesdays.

Provoking the ewok:

grammie winger: That's kinda like saying "I'll bring you some toilet paper after I've had my coffee."

FenelonSpoke: I was actually hoping for art-not news. :^)

Assuaging the ewok:

OregonMuse: Ace, this is your best post ever!

Pro tip: Don't provoke the ewok, especially first thing in his day.

grammie winger: How many of you fine gentlemen have your presents both bought AND wrapped?

You're kidding, right? It's not even Christmas Eve yet!

chemjeff: The formal name would be "hydrogen oxide" but "water" is just as acceptable.

No, I need the fancy term. Well, dang it, "hydrogen oxide" just doesn't fit the meter here at all.

You sure? What do you know about chemistry?

Oh... right...

Say, apropos of nothing, what would be the six-dollar chem name for H2O? Dihydrogen monoxide? Dihydrous?

I took geology not chemistry, alas...

Must've been B.C. ... unless you borrowed Ace's time machine which he totally doesn't have...

Willow's dilemma w her sister reminds me...

Mom has strict no-politics rules at family gatherings, because of the irrational, angry communist atheist relatives (wish I was exaggerating) like Sis.

Sitting on the porch with Mom & Sis at Thanksgiving, I guess I skirted the edge. I started out saying something like, I haven't got much use for Trump (trying to soft-peddle what followed) and tried to talk about enjoying the hilarious style of Diamond and Silk, the Stump for Trump gals in their videos, even if I don't agree with 'em on Trump.

I didn't get much past saying the word "Trump," though, before Sis jumped up, mumbled something rude, and stormed inside. Serious TDS. Mom kind-of just sighed and we smiled at each other.

Alcohol may also have been involved at that point.

Ah, family!

Bruce w/aW!: ...LOved seeing that big orange ball clearing and revealing an up right rocket....

Finally watched the landing last night. Just incredible. Seen rockets land upright in SF in various media since the 50s, but seeing the real thing... almost unbelievable.

willow from last thread: ...although i don't believe g-d is so much listening to me these days.

Life can get ... challenging. Rough. Seemingly impossible. Believe me, I know. Of course, you know, in your heart of hearts, that the Almighty is always listening. He might not be answering immediately and out loud and in the way we might want - but always always hears. And holds you in his heart and has the best destiny for you.

...Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Merry Christmas, Willow.

Well, it's now definitely half past too late to get down to Tulsa to see Cruz onstage with our congressman Bridenstine.

Dislike crowds anyway. Just thought it might be fun to be there.

As far as I can recall, the last time I went anywhere to see a politician in a crowd, Nixon was addressing... OSU graduation? Something like that. It was a few years ago...! I have some super-8 film of that, somewhere in the catacombs...

We know that Islam is the problem. It's sometimes hard to remember, but that doesn't mean everybody who is nominally Islamic is inhuman.

On Monday, a terrorist attack on a bus in Kenya failed when Muslim passengers threw themselves over Christians to shield them from the Islamists' wrath....

Some Muslims were killed for their efforts. "No greater love."

"conflation of Santa and God" - I should probably more exactly have said Santa and the Spirit.

Sort-of in response to the fellow talking about a grandmother telling the 5yo there is no Santa Claus (that was on the ONT, if my sleepyheaded memory is correct), and in the vein of "Yes Virginia," here's something I first posted on CompuServe's Religion Forum, Christmas Eve, 1988.

Santa, Dear Friends
http://bit.ly/uPbosF

I especially remember how outraged an atheist regular on the forum was that I didn't concede that this conflation of Santa and God was just confirming they were both fantasy.
