Was saving these for the morning thread, but... (refreshes main page one last time)... nope, still not up.

[Jimmy] Hatch, a Navy SEAL senior chief who led a platoon into a fierce battle to try to rescue Bergdahl, was shot and badly wounded on that mission. Beside him, service dog Remco lay mortally wounded, after running through a hail of bullets at two Taliban fighters hiding in a ditch, exposing their whereabouts....

Good article by some "Dedicated Tenther" on the attitude of gratitude.

A Biblical scholar claims that due to a mistranslation the original scripture actually says that Eve was made from Adam's penis not his rib. The professor states that man is the only mammal without a penis bone. Guess that's where it went.

666 ... The Tasmaniam Devil population...

Seems appropriate.

I'm probably not going to make it to the morning thread...

Cecil: ...doubtful they'd be aware that it would be more convenient to you if they had distinctive markings.

Details, details. Not gonna spoil my good kitteh memories with your mean old sciencey factualities.

As for the lioness growing out more mane and deepening voice, hormonal auto-adjustment certainly seems within the realm of possibility - but of course, not to the point of auto-transgendering. At least, not in higher mammals....

Vic? Wake up! They won't post a morning thread until you leave your news on the ONT!

Grey Fox: If a lioness can grow a mane and deeper-sounding vocal cords by sheer willpower, as the article suggests, then surely transgenders should be able to grow boobies/external genitalia as they wish without the aid of surgeons.

Not to throw a wet blanket on your funneh, but... methinx there may be a touch of difference between alteration in voice and hair color and those rather heavier alterations!!

Regarding the mane color changes: We once had a semi-feral momcat drop on us a litter of kittens that included three white ones. We could only tell them apart because one had a small grey streak on the left of her head, the other the same but on the right, and the third had none.

After two of them died, including the no-streak cat, the remaining one lost her gray streak. No longer a reason for it, we supposed.

*sigh* I miss all three of those long-gone little girls.

I like my coffee freshly-ground.
I like my coffee hot.
I dislike when my cup gets cold,
That's why I make a pot.

I only have a smallish cup,
And then go for some more.
Although it makes for many trips,
Back to the pot to pour.

How in the world did I manage to get my nic doubled in that last comment? Reminds me of "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman."

Morning, Glories! Early morning. To whoever's here.

Woke up, and my agitated mind would not let me go back to sleep despite weariness of body.

Have the flame wars passed? (I presume there were flame wars.) Is it safe for morning people?

MWNP: ...the physical action of slamming down a rotary dial or tone actual land line phone handset. No app will ever give one that feeling. It is a physical thing.

Ah, that's true.

It's just not the same when you hurl your cell at the wall.

Y-not: Holding these stupid cell phones is annoying.

If only there were, like, some device that let you use them by just sticking a thing in your ear. Even wireless. Wouldn't that be cool?

MWNP: ...slam a phone down to end a call...

Somebody told me a while back there's an app for that....

I remember when we upgraded to rotary phones and seven-digit numbers.

What a shame to give up on the simple three-digit numbers and voice-activated dialing.

Whose idea was it to put the emergency "0" number at the longest-to-dial position anyway?

Apparently, a category made up just so AoS could make the list.

I think AoS commenters deserve some special category award. Most Corgi-like Morons?

I only follow a small percentage of the blogs listed in this 2015 Fabulous 50 Blog Award Winners. I'd like to add many of them, but... I can hardly keep up with the ones to which I already subscribe.

God bless Pete's heart, and his doctors.

Did not need to see the pitchfork pic. Uuugggh.

I have to agree with Trump about Gowdy. Like Ryan, Rubio is not the conservative he seemed to be, and Gowdy accomplished nothing with the hearings. At least Trump didn't criticize Gowdy's hair!!!

Gonna be a long election year.

You know, 1000 to 2000 attackers doesn't sound like a mob to me. Sounds more like an army. This is war. And a rather lopsided one at this point.

Harder to keep up with all the blogs than I remembered!

exdem13, back in the #300s: Seventies pop absolutely full of downer tear-jerker songs. Bread made an entire career of them....

I know Ace has stomped this thread already, but I wanted to say, I'm pretty sure (too lazy to search) it was Bread who did "Yooooou left me... just when I needed you most."

Must've been circa '79, because that's when sheeeee left me, just when I needed her most. Or maybe I was being crazy and we needed a break. I'm still not sure.

I picked it out on the eighty-eights, both because singing it helped make that dumb song less stinging, and because I had written a song of my own that had a similar kind of tune, and I wanted to see how similar. Very.

We got back together, and have been ever since. Amen.

Morning, Glories, except in the Eastern Time Zone where it's past morning already.

Woke up to all that saturation of rain frozen on top, with a light layer of snow on top. Went back to bed. Woke up to more snow, but still not a lot.

Just looks dangerous. May have to stay home today, despite so many post-Christmas Monday chores to do.

And I missed the first two threads of the day. Probably just had no good news anyway.

Carry on.
