…On this day in 1820 the Missouri Compromise was signed into law by President James Monroe. The compromise allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state, brought Maine into the Union as a free state, and made the rest of the northern part of the Louisiana Purchase territory slavery-free. This was hailed as a great compromise but it only delayed the inevitable for a few more years. It did not satisfy the firebrands on either side.

…The issue is immigration policy but more broadly the hijacking, really, of our legitimate legislative process by a rogue judiciary in service to the dismantling of the republic and a GOP all too willing to go along with it.…
