Johnson, from Mesquite, Texas, a 20 minute drive from Dallas, reportedly told law enforcement that he was a US Army Veteran, and claimed to have acted alone, countering reports that as many as four gunmen were involved in the massacre.…

Dallas police Chief David O.Brown confirmed Friday that the fourth suspect in the ambush that left four officers dead Thursday night did not kill himself but was done in by a bomb detonated by police.… “The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter. He said he was upset about the recent police shootings. The suspect said he was upset at white people,” Brown told reporters. “The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers. The suspect said that we will eventually find the IEDs. The suspect stated he was not affiliated with any groups and he stated that he did this alone.”…

…On this day in 1775 the Olive Branch Petition was signed by the Continental Congress of the Thirteen Colonies. The petition was intended to try to reconcile with the King of England and try to avoid the coming war. The King refused to accept the petition and had already declared the colonies "in rebellion". It did not help that a "private letter" by John Adams had been intercepted which indicated he was against the petition so the King did not consider the petition to be serious. The original petition had been written by Thomas Jefferson but was rejected because it was considered "too harsh".
