…On this day in 1618 the English adventurer, writer, and courtier Sir Walter Raleigh was beheaded for conspiring against James I of England in the "Main Plot". He had already been placed in the Tower of London for that but was released so it must not have much of a conspiracy. The actual reason for his execution was to appease the Spanish because his soldiers had ransacked a Spanish settlement in the new world while looking for El Dorado.…
