NEWS OF BATTLES IN THE WAR FOR TRUE LIBERTY
Whether tyrants call themselves Taliban or Puritan, Commie, Nazi, Republican, Democrat, or just the neighborhood bully, they would impose irrational and unnecessary restrictions, essentially religious taboos, upon those who don't believe as they do. No real crimes are committed. Americans deride the Taliban who regulate what women can wear and how long men's beards must be, yet the Puritanical taboos tend to be just as absurd, governing what we can look at or what we can smoke. In the name of this religious tyranny, there are innumerable injustices every day. Just look at Google News search on "marijuana OR cannabis OR hemp" on any day. Below are just some of the outstanding or representative battles.

But they'll shape it any way that makes them money and gives them more power.

PROHIBITION CONTRIBUTES TO DEATH OF VIRGINIA MAN
Roanoke Times, VA
[He] reported to the jail July 13 to serve a two-day jail sentence for marijuana possession. ... Jail authorities have said [he] smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk...
In short, he died from either maltreatment by guards or from injuries suffered from the DT's. Either way, his mother is suing them for his death. He had a "history of misdemeanor arrests... several for public drunkenness..." Alcohol, of course, is legal. But it was the pot laws sent him to jail. Insanity!

Think of the children!Think of the children! Think of the chilllldrrreeennnn!
Mike Cullinan, Mail city editor, Marshfield Mail, MO
A ... woman was arrested Tuesday for endangering her newborn infant by allegedly smoking marijuana during her pregnancy... infant born to [her] on Jan. 2, had THC, a controlled substance, in its system. The same substance was also found in [the mother]. ... admitted last week that she had used marijuana on numerous occasions at her residence ...during the pregnancy. ... allegedly stated "she smoked marijuana about every other day for the last three weeks before she had her child" [and] she consumed alcohol on a couple of different occasions during the pregnancy ... added she has used "inhalants, downers, meth and cocaine in the past, but said she did not use any of these drugs during her pregnancy,"
A google search on "marijuana, pregnancy" turns up tens of thousands of references of course. Most of the references are warnings, low birth rate associated with smoking during pregnancy, children have trouble concentrating later, that kind of thing. According to Marijuana Myths, Claim No. 7: A number of studies claimed reported low birth weight and physical abnormalities among babies exposed to marijuana in utero. However, when other factors known to affect pregnancy outcomes were controlled for - for example, maternal age, socioeconomic class, and alcohol and tobacco use - the association between marijuana use and adverse fetal effects disappeared. ... Although it is sensible to advise pregnant women to abstain from using most drugs - including marijuana - the weight of scientific evidence indicates that marijuana has few adverse consequences for the developing human fetus.... This woman may be no saint, but she and her family, have been evilly treated by the fears, laws, and agents of prohibitionist puritalibanasty taboo-insanity.

Canadian citizen's found pot treasure confiscated by NarCop thugs

HE DID WHAT??

Lately, I've been noticing many more stories about two-legged drug dogs
Daytona Beach News-Journal, FL
... man was found [with] 105 grams of marijuana after being stopped Sunday ... because officers smelled burning marijuana ... a plastic bag containing marijuana was found in the man's pocked and another larger bag containing 45 smaller bags of marijuana was found underneath a jacket inside the car along with $300 in cash. charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Wouldn't you like to know the real story? See, if they say they smell it, that alone is just cause for search, and if they find something, it justifies their olfactory claim in the courtroom, and if they don't then you go your way and they try the trick on the next character they feel might add to their quotas. They never actually have to smell anything... or see anything... just say they did and catch you with something.
[SAME REPORT:] ... Seven Valium pills were found in a woman's sock after she was stopped ... for a broken license plate light. Wouldn't you like to know the real story? Isn't that quaint? "Maintaining a dwelling." $#!+ Translated into alcohol prohibition, they were selling beer and hard liquor and their activities should be just that illegal. But that trying to bribe public officers, that's bad stuff... and pretty stupid, I'd think....
Seattle Post Intelligencer, WA
Federal agents have arrested 14 people in the past week in a major International District drug bust involving sales of cocaine, marijuana and the hallucinogenic "club drug" Ecstasy. The group also was involved in sales of illegal weapons, including automatic machine guns, federal prosecutors say.
You don't end gangs to legalize substances, but you do end one of their major sources or revenue, recreational substances for which people are willing to pay even black-market prices.

THOUGHT-POLICE TYRANNIZE AIRWAVES IN MALAYSIA
Jonathan Kent BBC, Kuala Lumpur
Pop music radio stations in Malaysia have been told to submit scripts of live programmes before they are broadcast. Malaysia's Information Ministry says the move is intended to put a stop to disc jockeys using sexual innuendo and bad language.
How will we ever forge a world union where freedom of communication is permitted by such primitive nationalists as the Malaysians and the United States of Americans?

THOUGHT-POLICE MEET SOME MINOR OPPOSITION IN USA
Declan McCullagh, Staff Writer, CNET News.com, News.com/Business Week Online
...A Pentagon antiterrorism plan to link databases of credit card companies, health insurers and others--creating what critics call a "domestic surveillance apparatus"--is encountering growing opposition on Capitol Hill. ...
If they can do it, they'll do it, whether they have permission to do it or not. One of the many dangers with such surveillance is the invasive employment of prohibitionisms. With so many vice crimes, so many people are criminalized that spy files and spy methods are power against all but the squeakiest-clean... and they can be framed. Free citizens would not have to hide their reading material, recreational substances, weapons, or sexual inclinations from a true rights-respecting government.

MORE SIMPLE VICTIMS OF DRUG WAR-MONGERS
North Missourian, MO: [Male, 22] ... driving without a valid license and possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana
Kankakee Daily Journal, IL [Male], 25 ... arrested... for driving under the influence of alcohol. ... a routine jailhouse search reportedly revealed a small amount of pot stashed in [his] shoe. ALSO [Male] 19... arrested... for marijuana possession
Atlanticville Independent, NJ [2 Males, 19 and 20] charged... with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession of paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol
How can fully-enfranchised citizens be "underage"? Why can "of-age" citizens have a truly "dangerous substance" (alcohol) but not a relatively innocuous substance (marijuana)? Paraphernalia laws are double jeopardy in disguise.

The list goes on and on and gets longer every day. THESE ARE NOT TRUE CRIMES!

ENTREPRENEURS INTERRUPTED BY NARCOP THUGS
Northeast Philadelphia News Gleaner, PA: [K., male, 29 and some of K's relatives, male, 54, female, 22. Agents] ...seized about $43,000 in United States currency, about $39,000 in cocaine, about $29,000 in marijuana, about $4,000 in prescription pills, including OxyContin and Xanax, and about $20 in hashish. Police also confiscated drug paraphernalia, five guns, a 2002 Lexus sedan, a 2003 Lexus sedan and a 2003 Lexus SUV. ... [K] owns more than a dozen properties in the Northeast. All of the properties involved in the drug bust were registered to him. Most of Kull's properties are rentals; a few are businesses. He recently purchased a $400,000 property in Huntingdon Valley. "We're pretty sure he purchased all these properties as a result of selling drugs," [Officer] Muldoon [really!] said. "The city is in the process of trying to confiscate them through forfeiture."
South Florida Sun-Sentinel, FL: MIAMI A joint task force on Wednesday said it seized almost 500 pounds of marijuana that were dumped in the waters in the southern Bahamas from fleeing go-fast boats.
There's no arguing that drug dealers are frequently not-nice people. The people desperate enough to take the high risk and greedy enough to want the high profit of attempting to circumvent the taboo priests are often shady and unscrupulous. If repeal were made today all across the board, all across the world, in gambling, prostitution, drugs, and other so-called vice laws, some moral-minded black-marketeers would be left with no such shady easy-money venture they could morally justify, but many black-marketing thugs would move without missing a beat into true criminal activities like protection rackets or fraud or what-not. Sic the ex-drug cops on them then.

PURE PROHIBITIONIST PROPAGANDA
WKYT, KY
Headline: Marijuana Problem is Just as Big as Ever ...while methamphetamine and prescription drugs are getting the most attention these days, Kentucky's marijuana problems are as big as ever.
The problem is that it's illegal because insane taboo "laws" and crude and hateful beliefs hold sway.

KANGAROO DRUGTHUG COURT "TRIES" POT ACTIVIST BY DIALLOWING CRUCIAL POINTS
Josh Richman, Tri-Valley Herald, CA
Jury selection began Tuesday for the trial of pro-marijuana author and activist Ed Rosenthal of Oakland, who faces federal drug charges for growing marijuana under the state's medical marijuana law. But evidence of that state law and Oakland's city ordinances will be excluded from his trial under an order U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer of San Francisco issued Monday barring Rosenthal from mounting a defense based on medical issues. The trial begins next Tuesday and is expected to last more than a week.

PROHIBITIONISM HAMPERS TREATMENT, WORSENS SITUATION
Seattle Press, WA: Heroin and cocaine-related deaths in the Seattle-King County area increased in 2002. ... increases in the use of club drugs, marijuana and prescription opiates. Methamphetamine use, however, seemed to level off after years of increases. ...
Not just prohibitionism, of course, but the whole Vice-Law mindedness behind it.

PROHIBITION KEEPS AFGHAN FARMERS GROWING DOPE
Pam O'Toole BBC regional analyst
The executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime says that the price of Afghan opium has recently risen to around $600 per kilogram, making it more difficult to offer attractive incentives for farmers to grow legal crops. ... Afghan opium is currently selling for almost twice the price it was this time last year and around 17 times more than the lowest price reached during the 1990s. ...
Gee. I wonder what could possibly remove this powerful economic incentive OTHER than a barbaric false-religion-driven decades-long multibillions-dollar attack upon personal civil liberties worldwide? How about... repeal? repeal! REPEAL! REPEAL! Then we sort out how to deal with junkies in a truly civilized society.

ADMITTEDLY, MANY DRUGGIES (AS WITH OTHER PEOPLE) SHOULD BE ARRESTED JUST FOR STUPIDITY
TODAY'S EXAMPLE #1
WMAQ-TV, IL
Follow-up to Chicago NarCop attack upon four Hispanics with 207 pounds of pot
...At around 3 p.m. Tuesday, officers discovered about 100 grams of marijuana "in plain view in the front seat" of a car after pulling a man over ... for running a stop sign .... When the officers asked questions, either the driver or a female who was with him "starting blabbing about a big load (of marijuana) back at the apartment" ....
Sheesh!
TODAY'S EXAMPLE #2
KBIM, NM
[Male, 20] ... police found him doing drugs in front of a child. ... was babysitting an infant child while smoking marijuana. Cops smelled it ... They say he was disoriented and he did not know the age of the baby or where the food was for the child. ... was cited for possession of marijuana and cruelty to children.
Wrong babysitter!
TODAY'S EXAMPLE #3
KESQ, CA
... teachers at Yucca Valley Elementary noticed one of their first graders doing a show-and-tell with marijuana they say he brought to school. ... a bag of marijuana, a pipe to smoke it in, and a lighter. ... The boy's parents are under arrest for child endangerment. ... police say they've been to their home before to search for drugs....
Sadly funny highly-fearmongering prohibitionist propaganda piece, in some ways:
[A mother of another student at the school said her son] is seven years old. Too young, she thought, to understand what marijuana is.  Now she says it's a topic she's going to have to tackle I've warned my kids, but they don't know what it looks like.  He would think it was candy.
Doesn't he watch the drug advertisements on TV provided by the Partnership for a Drug-Freaked America? Since when do kids smoke candy? Anyway, kid! it looks like spinach! But it's not funny. Pot-fear madness destroys a family, however poor a family....
Carolina Morning News, SC
...passenger, [Female], 20, of Hingham, Mass., gave a deputy permission to search the car, which she owns, after handing the officer an open container of beer... search allegedly yielded $55,110 in cash, including $50,000 found in a suitcase in five bundled stacks of $10,000, less than an once of marijuana, less than a gram of cocaine and drug paraphernalia....
She probably didn't make real good friends with the two guys arrested!

Drive safely, keeds!
Chris Tucker, Ashland City Times, TN
A Clarksville man's erratic driving attracted the attention of a Sheriff's corporal and eventually led to his arrest last Wednesday ... [for] felony possession of marijuana. Sheriffs... observed the turquoise Camaro ...swerve across the double yellow line two times. ...[The man, 20] allegedly had bloodshot eyes and acted nervously. ... [Officer] asked for permission to search the vehicle and discovered a purple Crown Royal bag containing six individual baggies of marijuana. ... seventh bag found ...during a pat-down search. ... said the marijuana was his ...[and] he had smoked three marijuana cigarettes prior to his arrest.
There's so much wrong here, where can I begin? Acted "nervously?" Dumb kid. Smoked three and couldn't stay in the lane. That's pretty bad. Never believe that "gave permission for the vehicle to be searched" stuff! I'm not sure how the cops do that, but I know there are Constitutional rights constantly violated in the name of the insane Taboo Laws. Still, we salute good police work spotting an apparently erring driver in need of a reprimand or arrest, whatever the good traffic officer deems right. At 18, the driver should be legal to smoke, and also be responsible for operating a vehicle properly. (Dumb kid.)

Entrepreneurial importers attacked by NarcoThugs, defend their liberty
AP/KOLD-TV, AZ
Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona have been shot at twice this week. No one was hurt. ...shots in both cases fired from Mexican side of border. ... Near Naco... vehicle got stuck ...driver got away, crossed back into Mexico, turned around and shot at the agents. Agents found 12-hundred pounds of marijuana.... Near Douglas ... somone fired from Mexico side of border... agents found 170 pounds of marijuna in the area.
Okay, the headline doesn't really mean that the Radical supports armed thuggery like this. The Radical supports eliminating the black market completely at the root, not one or the other side of the divisive and insane civil conflict generated by ill-conceived prohibitionism. Legalize it!

Something doesn't smell right here...
Steven Shoob, WTOC, GA
...deputy stopped a car for speeding ... A passenger in the vehicle--also the owner, 20..., gave consent to search the car after handing the officer her open container of beer. [?!]Deputies detained the driver, 26-year-old Stephen Azar, and a search turned up over $55,000 in cash. $50,000 was found in a suitcase in $10,000 bundles. Azar and Wagner, along with another passenger, 33-year-old Robert Abruzzese, were arrested at the scene. Marijuana and cocaine were also found during the search. The suspects are in the Beaufort County Detention Center facing various charges.
Were these people out of it? Why didn't the 20-year-old hand the can of beer to a male? Why would people with pot, coke, and $55,000 in cash be driving with an open container? Must be the coke, I'd say. In any case, speeding, that was probably wrong. The rest is just PROHIBITION INSANITY, even unto the 20-year-old with the can of beer. Why can't fully-enfranchised 18-to-20 year olds drink? This is mischief of the most mangled sort!

Science, Propaganda, and Reporting 2, real-life hard-case follow-up on earlier item regarding studies showing correlation between earlier substance use and later psychiatric disorders:
AP/KPRC-TV, TX
HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Convicted killer Samuel Gallamore, who brutally beat and stabbed to death a partially paralyzed woman, her husband and daughter, was executed Tuesday night. ... began using marijuana when he was 5, dropped out of school as a teenager and often fought to protect his older brother who was in a gang. "When it comes to having a life, you can pretty much say mine was a failure," he said. On the night of the killings, Gallamore said he and Steiner were on a two-week drug binge. ...
Horrific story. Certainly, he was not raised to respect the peacable potentials of the weed! The prohibitionists aren't lying when they say pot-high isn't always about like, peace, man. But we've known that since Manson showed us LSD was no "love" drug. The prohibitionists are lying, though, anyway.

Two enterprising salesmen robbed and kidnapped by New Jersey NarCops
NorthJersey.com, NJ
18 pounds of marijuana worth $36,000 in the cab of their tractor-trailer ... state trooper patrolling the New Jersey Turnpike rest stop noticed them acting suspiciously ... had been standing outside but quickly jumped into the passenger seat of the tractor-trailer and pretended to be asleep ... [Trooper] smelled marijuana ...
They had a nice roadside sales thing going, but you can't really allow commercial booths like that at rest stops, can you?

GEORGIA CITIZENS ABUSED BY NARCOTHUG CONSPIRATORS
Rockmart Journal

Follow-up: Pot found in Mex Narc offices linked to drug cartel
Anna Cearley, San Diego California Union-Tribune
TIJUANA Almost 5 tons of unreported marijuana found in a federal anti-narcotics office last week is believed to have originally belonged to the Arellano Félix drug cartel.
Earlier article, Sandra Dibble, San Diego Union-Tribune:
The cartel only profits from marijuana trade because of prohibition. Prohibition isn't about law because it isn't about personal transgression, theft, threat, or harm, by drug users, but it is about the constant transgression against world citizens' personal-use of any taboo substances.

Expelled students have Choices
Luisa d'Amato Waterloo Record, Canada
Phil Ha was expelled from school because he tried to make money selling marijuana. But that was more than a year ago... after spending almost all of the last school year in a special "strict discipline" program called Choices for Youth ... instead of selling dope, he's hoping to market that poster to elementary schools.
Well, at least they recognized and encouraged his entrepreneurial and capitalistic interests....

Canadian PuriTalibaNazi priest-judges use threat against man's father and daughters against him
Frances Barrick, Waterloo Record, Canada
KITCHENER -- A 51-year-old man who recruited his elderly parents and two daughters to operate six indoor marijuana grows in five cities in southwestern Ontario was sentenced yesterday to 30 months in jail. David Chown of Mississauga pleaded guilty in a Kitchener courtroom to conspiracy in the production of marijuana in six residences in Mississauga, London, Hamilton, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines from Feb. 1, 2001, to Jan. 19 of last year. In exchange for his guilty plea, similar charges against his 75-year-old father and two daughters, 20 and 21, were withdrawn. ... Krug said her client, the father of seven children from two marriages, got into the marijuana-growing business to make money, but ended up losing more than he made because he wasn't very successful in growing high-quality marijuana. ... Chown's previous criminal record, which dates back to 1975 and includes robbery, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.
There is no justice possible in such a case. I can't know his character, which this piece of propaganda looks bad, and he sounds like a sad loser, but the man is taking the fall for his family members. In any case, it is the psychotic prohibitionists if anyone who should be serving time in the prison for their corruption of the Constitution and the usurpation of so many citizen's rightful liberties.

Four Chicago men's property taken, lives invaded and ruined by PuriTaliban goons
Chicago Sun-Times
Police seized 200 pounds of marijuana with a street value of almost $1 million on Chicago's Northwest Side Tuesday. ...
Traffic stop leads to home invasion and confiscation of what narco nutzis say is a million dollars worth of vegetation. The narcops should know what the black market price is because they keep it going!

Insane religious tyrants invade privacy and usurp liberty of California man with small home pot farm
Harry Harris, Alameda California Times-Star
OAKLAND -- A pungent odor and a "spinning" PG&E meter led police to a sophisticated marijuana harvesting operation allegedly run by a man with a history of mental problems. ... [Officer] said the harvesting operation was "super-duper nice." "I was impressed," he said. "It's hard to say how long he has been doing this because we haven't gotten any calls before. We don't know how long he has been living here. He could have been doing it for some time."
Actually, it was reports the man was "acting erratically and was a suicide risk" that led to the Brain Police attack. The man, 50, claimed the mother plant and 188 daughters were for medical use but he had no smoking stuff around, and there were scales and bagging stuff there, so the NarcoNazis assume it was grown for sale. So, a harmless semi-loon loses his freedom because full-blown religious lunatics rule the country and he violated their primitive taboos.

Drug war is meant to go on forever, as stats in Arkansas show
Jeff Niese The Morning News/NWAonline.net
FAYETTEVILLE -- Drug agents seized more marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine in 2002 than in any year since the inception of the local task force, officials announced Tuesday. ... The agents seized 52 meth labs last year, one less than the 53 in 2001. "We felt like that was more of a priority then going out and putting our efforts into actively seizing meth labs," Reynolds said. An officer can spend 10 hours, from making the initial raid to waiting for the lab to be cleaned up, to seize one meth lab. ...
Skanky skanky meth. Legalize use. Legalize sale. Legalize the meth market. Keep prices reasonable so no one will be tempted by black-market profits to put a stinky dangerous meth lab anywhere near where other people live. Voila! no meth labs. Meth heads, sure. But you have them anyway. And they need help they can't get the way an alcoholic or a nicotine fiend can.

Science, Propaganda, and Reporting
ScienceDaily.com reports on the recent finding of correlation between earlier (early-teen) substance use and later (late 20's) psychiatric "disorders." The lead line of the article:
Children who start to use alcohol, marijuana or other illicit drugs in their early teen years are more likely to experience psychiatric disorders, especially depression, in their late 20's.
This is the kind of statement that prohibitionists would use to pervert science in the cause of their silly taboos, because this statement can be misinterpreted as demonstrating cause (substances) and effect (psychiatric disorders). Science sees correlation, not causality, signals for helping people not agendas for absurd blanket religious taboos. The last of the article:
WHAT IT MEANS: This study adds to the growing body of knowledge about the complex relationship between drug abuse and psychiatric disorders. Such findings will be useful in efforts to develop more effective prevention and treatment interventions for individuals at risk for these co-occurring conditions.
Note the precise language. Co-occuring conditions. One man's refreshing beverage at the end of the day is another man's poison. Let individuals be responsible and governments deal with true transgressions.
