2002-Nov-02 McKinney TX (AP)Couple indicted for giving baby
cocaine, using drugs around baby
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/metropolitan/1644724
The
prohibitionists would be aghast at this, but I would file this case under
"cultures in conflict." A little cocaine used to be considered medically safe
even for babies, recommended for teething, and other ailments. The accusations
also include "dealing drugs with baby in arms." This is "inexcusable" according
to a Prohibitionist policeman, but just what is the actual harm of dealing
drugs while a baby is around? Now, the alleged exposure to secondhand pot smoke
could be somewhat harmful, but tobacco would be worse and no one gets
prosecuted for smoking that crap around babies. Yes, drug-addled parents could
be inattentive, but no charge of any actual harm to the baby was cited,
although it did test positive for coke. The father denies the charges, calls
witnesses liars. "Anybody who would do that is wrong." Sigh!

Patients must have "debilitating medical condition" such as cancer,

Corruption may always be with us, but it's more common when you
have vice laws if I presume correctly that many are more likely to
justify their corruption over "victimless" crimes than over true crimes like
murder and theft. If there were no drug laws to violate, there would be no drug
gangs. Vice laws dishonor the true rule of law.

BAD GUYS SMOKE POT, TOO
In the category "not helpful to the
cause" are all the cases where genuine criminality is associated with
cannabis consumption. Rarely do we see pot alone being used, as other drugs are
usually in the mix, or there are other obvious problems with the individual.
Pot's effect has a reputation among some as peaceable, but bad guys smoke pot,
too, proving that it's the individual, not the substance, that determines how
the "high" (or "low") will be used:

Arizona Proposition 203 provisions
Legalization, it's so
simple, and yet they make it so complex-seeming. "Decriminalization" is always
done piecemeal; quantity limits are just half-assed cowardice. Like saying it's
okay to own and drink beer, but illegal to have an entire six-pack in your
fridge. But having the police providing medical pot out of confiscations of
recreational pot? That's utterly ludicrous! Just get the government OUT
of the drug business entirely. Equally absurd is increasing penalties for
committing crimes while "under the influence." Either it's a crime, punishable
because of what you did, or it's not. The influences are irrelevant. But then
there are
hidden agendas after all.

Responding to burglar alarm, cops see drugs, money,

stupidity. We always suspect, however, whether the cops really
only "peeked through a window" to find contraband "in plain sight."
