Decades back, I read a great retort about alleged linguistic sexism, a woman who said she had no problem at all being called the chairman of the board! Heh.

I'll gladly say I was our firstborn's midwife. The appointed midwife was just back from vacation, passed out on our couch and missed the moment. Mrs W didn't waste time when she was ready to give birth, you see. (Really. For the twins, we made it to the hospital, with ten minutes to spare before the first, and the second was ten minutes after that. Of course, she'd been carrying full-size guys for the full term, while we lived on a third-floor walkup, so you — especially you mothers! — can imagine how at that point she was quite ready to be done with that pregnancy!)

I must admit, I didn't get the Midwife script. I first said something like "it's a child," or "baby human." I was in shock and awe at the sudden appearance of a new baby human being unfolding in my hands. The late-arriving midwife began that lifetime process of gender-imprinting by informing the Mrs it was a girl.

Re the gender-neutral mentality? Taken to the extreme: David Reimer, "hailed by scientists as a triumph of nurture over nature. But as his suicide shows, this was a terrible mistake." [h/t Scott on Moonbattery]

Thanks for this, Patty! So many things lately have been making us say, is this for real? Living in the future is so much fun (except for the killer nano bacteria wars... oh, wait, they haven't happened yet).

We CAN do this. We OUGHT TO do this. And per the comments I saw on YouTube, people are seriously discussing how to mine asteroids to build it. Yes! We WILL do this! Okay, it's fun to think about, anyway.

Logged the Enterprise effort in my little Transport Future album, and h/t'd you.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about Biden faking his records! Joe the bully is no surprise, but I do like the description of his sucker-punching. Assuming someone's going to fight you, that's the way to do it. Thanks again for all the diggin' & postin' you do, thehyphenated!

Goober lives! isn't really fair, because Goober was kind-hearted.

I think I have a couple dangling threads back there somewhere. Real life, it's so distressing when it gets busy and takes us away from virtuality! :D

Just from the artistic standpoint: I learned the hard difference between original work and franchise that month when I picked up Spider-Man and it wasn’t by Ditko! I was young and naive, and I might have recovered from that, but not the loss of Ditko on Dr Strange, too! And then Kirby left Marvel and my childhood ended.

I’m not usually a hoarder-collector, but I bought the whole Watchmen series and stored sets for my kids (who now grown are of course great fans of the work). Re-read it recently. It’s still great.

Despite all trepidations and warnings, I actually watched about one minute of the Watchmen movie (borrowed — didn’t spend any money on it). Just freaked me out to see something so visually well-realized, immediately futzing with the delicately-constructed work. Like the live-action Avatar (the Airbender one), which looked good right up until someone spoke. Damslamshamalyan! http://youtu.be/hksKLHt9Kzg

That said, I enjoyed the Watchmen extra bits like well-made fan flicks. Maybe like Mike Gold said, those worked because they were adaptations in another medium as well as outside the original story?

Yes, truly, Watchmen is perfectly self-contained and replete. But it can work in an alternate medium. See: http://youtu.be/YDDHHrt6l4w

Staplers should be registered and limited to officially designated, trained personnel only, because untrained, unregistered staple-operators could, you know, put someone's eye out with that thing.

"Office"-ially designated. SWIDT? :/

Half-a-million googlits for "stapler accidents" ... o geez, "Accident w/ Pneumatic air Stapler"!...

If you look closely, the tat on that dog's butt says "kick me." As if doing that to a dog isn't already going to be an invitation to bullying by all the other dogs!

Our boy is a mix of Pit Bull, German Shepherd, and Chow. He does not look like that poodle. We just took three ticks out of our his ear; inside the hole too, not just in the flappy part. He was very patient about it, so maybe he'd tolerate a tattoo. I figure he needs, like, a flaming skull....

Wait! BLUEBERRY FACIAL!!??!! What a waste of blueberries!!

Says here I haven't been keeping up on my Ace for a month now. What's been hap? How's everybody's health? Did Hummingbird and Stuck elope? Is SMOD still on schedule? Do you know where I can rent 86 hour days?

Can't stay long, though, so I leave these links for the buffet.

“…the floor is sparsely populated with standees….

I greatly enjoy the idea of the Obama campaign filling the floor with cardboard cut-outs of people. Wouldn’t put it past ‘em.

Just passing through. No time to say goodbye hello I'm etc.

Miss me yet?

My cousin's kid has been a perfect angel in all his videos... but I see he's growing up. :D

Angry, do not make me. Like me, you would not.

Goober is Gone. Once shot Matt Dillon on "Gunsmoke."

I don't know why I say goodbye you say hello?

(Just starting to get caught up on the week's PoliNation. Funny thing about how fast net stuff stacks up when I try to get some real-life work done.)

Top Media Director for Planned Parenthood
Legal Director for NARAL
Director of Emily’s List
Emily’s List board member
Director of Public Policy for Planned Parenthood Health Systems
Board member of Planned Parenthood

I don't get it, Chrissy. Are you trying to suggest there's some kind of systematic pattern here? I'm sure it's all just coincidental. Like finding out they were all Rotarians, or something, y'know?
